We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sabrina Gelsinger-Rodorigo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sabrina below.
Sabrina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Yoga found me in 2014 and provided an abundance of healing in my life. As the years passed and I entered social work grad school, I joined a 200 hour Yoga Teacher training program that had an additional 40 hours dedicated to trauma informed yoga, social justice, and leadership training in 2019. This paired beautifully with what I was learning in social work at the time. I knew then that one day I wanted to have a healing space for people to receive therapy, yoga, and other healing modalities, but wasn’t sure about the when, where, and how part.
In the beginning of 2020, I started Shanti Stones by Sabrina, an intentional crystal jewelry brand to enhance mind, body, and spirit connection. Crystal earrings were the first pieces ever made and this quickly evolved to making bracelets and malas to meditate with. Later that year, Resilience Yoga opened to offer yoga to support trauma survivors in reconnecting with their body. I was always curious about how I could bridge the two worlds I was a part of (clinical social work and holistic). Along my journey of graduate school, I was fortunate to work with several agencies that emphasized holistic healing for trauma survivors. I trained in Reiki energy healing with a fellow social worker as soon as I graduated with my MSW as a gift to myself, not knowing if I would use it for others. I quickly realized Reiki was more than just a personal myself, it was a gift I could share with others.
In 2022, Holistic Healing and Wellness with Sabrina opened to house mental health therapy, yoga, Reiki, crystal jewelry, meditation, and mindfulness services. Today, I am grateful to share that this vision continues to expand and grow to provide a safe and supportive space for spiritually seeking women to release bodily emotions from childhood wounds and connect deeper with themselves.
Just like anyone else, I have experienced my fair share of challenges and adversity. One of the biggest challenges (and blessings) I experienced was realizing the need to go deeper in my mental health journey. This was crucial for me to begin early on fill up my cup and to be able to pour into others. I still have a team of professionals who I work with to support my mind, body, and spirit health. Other challenges included navigating imposter syndrome, perfectionism, leaving a 9-5 job, and more. I share this because I want to normalize that it can be exciting and nerve-wracking to take the first step to start a business and lead it.
If I had to go back and do it all again, I’d do it exactly the same. Any challenge experienced became a lesson and gift. My advice to anyone who wishes to start their own practice is this: Follow your passion, your dream, and your “why.” When you feel lost or confused, find your center and come back to your vision of who you want to serve. Set the intention for creative possibilities and follow your intuition. Know that everything will unfold or something better will blossom.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As someone who has gone through anxiety and adverse experiences, I know that feeling of disconnection well. As a child, I witnessed and went through trauma at young ages, and carried it with me for a long time. It wasn’t until my adulthood that I felt safe to talk about it and allow myself to receive support. There was a time when I felt angry, ashamed, sad, anxious, and fearful of things that happened to me. I remember thinking “something was wrong with me” or “I was bad” and would feel that way “forever.” If I am being honest, I felt that for an extremely long time in my life.
I am grateful for the family, friends, partner, therapists, and spiritual teachers during that period that supported me at that time (and continue to do so to this day). I’ve been able to transmute suffering into peace, support myself, and in turn be of support to clients.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think it’s extremely important to have training and knowledge in therapy to ensure that you are practicing within your scope to give clients the best care possible or refer to other professionals to best support the client’s therapeutic needs.
Beyond these things, it’s helpful to not lose sight of your empathy and passion for guiding others. Most of all, you have to honor where your client is at. I believe in a client-centered approach where I trust the client is an expert on their lives, what is best for them, and what they want to get out of our time together. This approach empowers the client to make the changes they feel are necessary and allows us to collaborate together.
