Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sabrina + Charisse Simpson + Holliday. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sabrina + Charisse, appreciate you joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, we both earn a full time living from owning and operating LookLove. We started booking clients in August of 2019. We booked our first wedding within our first week of launching and it grew at a nice steady pace for the next 6 months or so and then covid hit. We quickly pivoted to honoring contracts later in the spring of 2020 to still be vendors within micro weddings and were able to stay afloat during the summer. Once summer hit, we started booking for 2021 like wild fire and its stayed steady ever since. The speed in which we grew was always a decent and fast one. With the exception of taking a two month pause with covid, we really were able to come back once the world reopened and kept up with bookings since then.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
LookLove was created from both of our hearts in Charlotte, NC in 2019. We provide a full-service beauty concept, preparing you for any event or photoshoot. Beginning with styling and a spray tan, and ending with hair and makeup, we are dedicated to delivering a personalized experience. We each have about 12 years of experience of creating looks our clients leave feeling their absolute best self. We’ve always said we want our mission to be turning haunting prom hair and makeup memories into the most fun and amazing wedding day ones.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly, word of mouth. Social media obviously helps when people post how happy and beautiful they look after working with us. We really do quite a large percentage of business based on referrals. We pride ourselves on not only our clients looking and feeling amazing once they leave, but also in providing the absolute most fun experience while getting ready with us. We love to make people laugh, talk, and overall be memorable. Our industry is pretty saturated with talented artists, but we do set ourselves apart in how we interact and leave our clients with fun and unforgettable experiences.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
How much hair and makeup costs! Haha, no but really, I think if you work outside of the wedding or media industries, you are shocked with how much it costs for talented and reliable artists to work with on wedding days and photoshoots. We always encourage clients to shop around, but at the end of the day, we’re worth every penny we charge. We’ve had too many potential clients lose out after they’ve gone with a cheaper artist only to find that they hated their trials or test shoots and reach out again only to find were already committed.
