We recently connected with Sabir El Bey and have shared our conversation below.
Sabir, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could go back in time and tell myself to begin my career in music at a younger age, I don’t actually think that I would go through with it. I truly believe everything has its appointed time and day, and that rushing or delaying anything could actually be harmful to the success of your journey overall. When I was pulled into a recording studio for the first time, there had already been a yearning in my heart to discover my life’s purpose for quite some time. I had already tried all the other things that called to me and took them as far as I could take them until there was no longer a passion for those things. It is truly a miracle when you discover something during your life experience that ignites a flame inside which can never dim or die. You could get up one day and completely lose your reason for doing whatever it is you are trying to do, but there is a certain thing that once found, will keep a fire lit underneath you your entire life. When I came to the end of the road with all of my goals, with family and friends, and with being stuck in place, that is when the doorway to music opened for me. When it opened, it happened in a way that was unforgettable, and my passion for it would grow by the day no matter what came to pass. Any sooner or later, and I’m not sure if my heart could have withstood everything that was destined to happen to me. Looking back on everything from my current position, I can say with a smile that I wouldn’t change a thing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am LEI EL, and through many different experiences I have come to the conclusion that I arrived here to create things unique. I have been told that the sound I create is much like a breath of fresh air simply because it is “different”. I am releasing my first studio EP ALIGNMENT in May. Music is of course my main pursuit, but I have been holding on to a strong desire to begin creating my luxury fashion brand. “EL BEY” is a line of high fashion garments, tools, hygiene products and accessories created by Sabir El Bey. There will be online and physical locations designed by me, and possibly others with similar vision. Stores will be open to the public before the end of 2025.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I came to LA a year and a half ago, and I was entirely homeless. I had to build everything that I am and everything that I have from the ground up without any assistance.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I am sure there are resources out there now that I am not aware of yet. I am looking to now create relationships with individuals who organize shows, and even anyone willing to invest in an artist with potential.
