We were lucky to catch up with Sabine James recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sabine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The defining moment in my career was when I turned my physical limitation into innovation.
Having built my life around movement, through dance and teaching, a ski accident in 1987 left me with a devastating diagnosis: advanced osteoarthritis and extreme lack of mobility.
I was told, I would likely never dance again. For many that would have been the end of the story, but for me, it was the beginning of something new: the creation of Wuenderball.

Sabine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Sabine (pronounced Sah-bee-Nah) , and movement is my language, my passion, and my purpose.
I am a movement educator, certified Pilates instructor, and the creator of Wuenderball -a dynamic, low-impact, but high intensity, fitness method with a 55cm physioball, that blends upper body-and core strengths, cardio and rhythm into a total body experience.
I am still a dancer at heart, a devoted wife, and a proud mother of two.
At the core of my brand is the belief that movement is life. Whether it’s for cardio, strength, mobility, joy or personal transformation, I guide people to reconnect with their bodies and move with confidence -no matter their age, fitness or experience level.
Wuenderball was born from my own need to move with intensity, challenge and freedom -without causing further harm. It’s where athleticism meets play, where cardio meets rhythm, and where my lifelong passion meets purposeful innovation. It is my signature workout: we bounce to the beat, move with control, work on agility through rhythm. It is music-driven and extremely fun.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could do it all over again, I’d choose the exact same profession and specialty -without hesitation. I wake up genuinely excited to go to work every day. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help people, to be surrounded by motivated, positive individuals who are showing up for themselves. Being able to give them the tools to grow stronger -physically and mentally-is one of the most rewarding things I can imagine. And honestly, the fact that I get to move and work out as part of my job and get paid for it? That’s a blessing in itself. On top of that I have the freedom to create my own schedule and choose the environments I want to work in, from different studios to rented spaces. I truly can’t think of a better way to spend my days.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Beyond training and technical knowledge, the most important factor in succeeding in this field is the ability to genuinely connect with people and ignite something within them. So many individuals walk through the door carrying insecurities- feeling like they are not fit enough, strong enough, or simply not enough. My goal is to create a space where they feel safe, welcomed and seen. I want them to leave class not just sweaty and challenged, but rejuvenated, empowered and inspired to come back. Personal connection is everything. it’s what transforms a workout into a meaningful experience.
