Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Saberra Massey-Hill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Saberra , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I took a big risk when I decided to stop treating phlebotomy like “just a job” and turn it into a full business and a school. I didn’t come from money, I didn’t have a big team, and I didn’t have a guarantee that people would trust me with their training or their healthcare needs. But I had something stronger than comfort—I had a vision and I had proof. I knew I could draw blood, I knew I could teach, and I knew I could change lives if I built a program that was real, hands-on, and supportive.
The risky part was betting on myself. I invested my own money into supplies, training materials, and structure before I had steady enrollment. I showed up when it was slow, when it was scary, and when it felt like nobody understood what I was building. I said yes to the hard stuff—policies, compliance, scheduling, accountability—because I wanted it to be legit and last, not just look good online.
And it paid off because I stayed consistent. I built Massey Mobile Phlebotomy Service and later Massey School of Phlebotomy with a simple promise: do it the right way and don’t leave people behind. Now I’m not just drawing labs—I’m creating opportunity. I get to watch students come in nervous and leave certified, confident, and employed. That’s the risk I took: I chose purpose over safety, and I didn’t quit when it got uncomfortable.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Absolutely. My name is **Saberra Massey-Hill**, and I’m the **Founder and Program Director** of **Massey School of Phlebotomy** and **Massey Mobile Phlebotomy Service** here in the St. Louis area. I’ve been a phlebotomist for **11 years**, and what started as a skill I was proud of turned into a bigger purpose—building a business and a school that creates real opportunity for people who are ready to change their life.
I got into this industry because I’ve always been drawn to healthcare, but I also wanted a career where I could see impact quickly. Phlebotomy is one of those lanes where you can start, learn a real skill, and get into the workforce without years and years of schooling. Over time, I realized the need wasn’t just for blood draws—it was also for **strong training**, **confidence**, and **access**. That’s what pushed me to build what we have now.
Through Massey Mobile Phlebotomy, we provide convenient, professional blood draw services—especially for people who need flexibility, concierge-style care, or simply prefer not to sit in long waiting rooms. Through Massey School of Phlebotomy, we train future phlebotomists with an emphasis on hands-on skill, professionalism, and readiness for certification and real job environments. I also offer mentorship for people who want to start their own mobile phlebotomy business because I know what it takes to go from “I have the skill” to “I have a real business.”
The main problems I solve are “access and readiness”. On the service side, I help make lab work easier for clients by bringing the draw to them. On the education side, I help people who want a better career get trained properly and confidently—especially those who are nervous, starting over, or coming from industries that didn’t fulfill them. I’m big on structure, accountability, and support, because people don’t just need information—they need a plan and someone who believes in them while they build the skill.
What sets me apart is that I’m not teaching from a distance—I’m teaching from real experience. I’ve done the work for over a decade, I know what employers expect, and I’m very honest about what it takes to succeed. My program is hands-on, detailed, and focused on results, but I also lead with heart. My students know they’re not just a number to me. I’m serious about them learning the right way and being prepared, and I’m serious about helping them build confidence and professionalism so they can keep the job once they get it.
I’m most proud of the lives that have changed because of this. Watching someone walk in unsure of themselves and leave trained, certified-ready, and motivated is a feeling I can’t even fully describe. I’m proud of building a brand that stands for real skill, real support, and real transformation—because that’s what Massey is about.
The main things I want people to know about me and my brand are simple: We do things with integrity, we take training seriously, and we show up. Whether you’re a client needing quality mobile phlebotomy services or a future student ready to learn, you can expect professionalism, structure, and a team that truly cares about getting you to the next level. Massey isn’t just a business—it’s a pathway.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes—I would choose phlebotomy again, and I’d still choose this path. Phlebotomy gave me a skill that opened doors fast, but more than that, it gave me purpose. It’s one of the few careers where you can make a real impact in someone’s day in a matter of minutes—being gentle, being professional, and helping people feel safe when they’re nervous.
If I’m being honest, I might change how soon I bet on myself. I would’ve stepped into entrepreneurship earlier, trusted my vision sooner, and stopped waiting for the “perfect time.” But the profession itself? I don’t regret it at all. It led me to build Massey Mobile Phlebotomy Service and Massey School of Phlebotomy, and now I’m not just working in the field—I’m creating opportunities for other people to enter it, grow in it, and win in it.
So yes, I’d do it again—because it fits who I am: hands-on, people-centered, and built to lead.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One story that really shows my resilience is when I hit a season where I was building *everything* at once—running my mobile phlebotomy work, growing the school, teaching, handling admin, and still trying to be present as a mom. On the outside, people saw the growth, but behind the scenes it was a lot of long nights, early mornings, and pressure I didn’t always talk about.
I remember getting to a point where I had invested money into supplies, training materials, and systems for upcoming classes—and then things didn’t go as smoothly as planned. People were slow to commit, payments came in late, and it felt like I was carrying the whole vision by myself. I had that moment where you’re staring at your bills and your calendar thinking, “If I don’t make this work, there’s no backup plan.” That was a heavy feeling.
But instead of folding, I got more structured. I tightened my processes, got clearer with policies, stayed consistent with marketing, and I kept showing up for my students like nothing was falling apart. I learned how to lead through pressure—how to stay calm, keep my promise, and still deliver quality even when I was tired. And what kept me going was remembering why I started: people were looking to me for a real opportunity, and I refused to let stress or fear be the reason they lost theirs.
That season taught me that resilience isn’t always a dramatic comeback—it’s doing the same hard thing every day until it finally works. It’s showing up when you’re nervous, when it’s uncomfortable, when you’re not sure how it’s going to turn out, and still choosing to move forward. That’s the muscle that built me—and it’s the same mindset I teach my students now.
