We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sabah Mustafa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sabah, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
I focus on choosing the right platform to provide value. My main mission is to teach others the power of privacy and longevity on the pinterest platform. These days with social media, everyone present the key to success as a reward to showing off every part of your life. Many misconceptions tie back to the need to always show your face or what you have in order to be successful or create a life of your dreams. My goal is to teach my students a way to step into that and create value based digital products that others may need.
Sabah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been in the online space since 2020, but have always been interested in marketing, sales and consumer psychology. All through high school, I was in fashion marketing with hopes of going to fashion school after graduation, but something about marketing lit a fire vs. the actual fashion.
Straight from high school, I jumped into membership sales and learned different strategies to apply to buyers, becoming a chameleon in the customer service/ marketing world.
By the time I was 19, I was in high ticket/event sales.
Eventually, i was left unfulfilled because i felt what i was doing didn’t align with my values, i wanted to genuinely help others and help them identify, highlight and walk in their passions.
As time went on and the pandemic happened, I started tapping into my creativity and started an ecommerce brand. I was quickly burnt out when it came to marketing, so i re-discovered another platform that allowed me to provide value and visual inspiration as well.
I started tapping back into the pinterest platform because I wanted to connect to an audience without having to be a “face” of my brand.
Eventually, i stepped away from e-commerce. started sharing my growth tips on pinterest and grew a clientele… i realized how much I was making these business owners and honed in on developing my own strategy to do it consistently. The thing was, i was able to do this faceless… then i realized others could do the same because they had value to offer, but showing up on camera was something they were uncomfortable with.
My mission is now to help others scale pinterest with digital products and faceless value based marketing. This has been my way of scaling a sustainable, ethical and long term business model.
Something that sets me apart is making sure my students also have the goal of a long term online plan, along with products that they can be proud of and provide ethically.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Communication with my audience and the desire to connect with them more personally. Many times in the online space, when people are selling programs or education, users still have questions!
While comments and DM’s are wonderful, there is something about talking to my audience in real time that makes my heart flutter.
I make it a habit to create a space for my audience to connect with me through live streams, where we can discuss everything as face-to-face as possible.
I also see the pinterest platform in a really unique way, and am passionate about highlighting why it is so different than any other platform.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that your “network” may be your “net-worth” … but the ethics and missions of the users in your network is SO much more important.
In any space, there is always a collection of bad seeds, and connecting with others simply because of vanity metrics such as net worth or follower count can be dangerous if you aren’t using your best judgement.
