We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Saba Sabet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Saba thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I recently became an auntie to a cutest boy, so painting a mural of planets with a space theme was a special type of project to accomplish and it turned out pretty nice !

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
well, the best way i could describe myself is a closeted introverted artist. I use the term “Artist” loosely as I still don’t consider myself worthy of it. Art has always been an outlet to express myself without exposing myself too much (because that would be so scary for a closeted introverted artist). Years ago on the pursue of staying creative, I started experimenting my art on different surfaces and medias. I found my excitement on converting a piece of your everyday wardrobe into a personal art canvas, hence the reason why I picked customizing shoes ! This passion turn into a small side hustle where I go to express myself. Nowadays what I consider this side hustle as an art studio of all possibilities to create art and sharing a little bit of yourself. I accept commission work to create your world through art but with a little twist of Saba :)

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think I have pivoted many times during my professional career as well as my side art projects. When I think about these pivots one sticks out to me. I was in a very good place when i customized shoes (so many orders, so many positive comments). It slowly became a task, a job, not an escape. I had to make a decision to no longer take any orders that i am not passionate about. I took a break and froze all orders and when I was ready I opened up myself as an artist and did multiple free work to get my inspiration back. It was a huge pivot where I lost a little of my following and customers but I remained true to who I am and why I want art to inspire me not other things.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Just a freeing escape to be in a world without judgment and hate.
