Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Saahas Patil. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Saahas, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think being successful in a city like LA requires tenacity. Especially in the music and performing business. I remember a teacher of mine telling me a long time ago that a big part of being able to create a life doing an art that you love is surviving the rate of attrition.
That was about a decade ago, and I still take that advice very seriously. Being someone that has moved to the US, there’s an added toughness to it which makes it that much more important to be tenacious. Over the last 8 years, I’ve watched people come and go because of how hard it is to actually pursue an art in the entertainment center of the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Saahas and I go by the same stage name. I’m a performer, singer and songwriter and have been doing so professionally since 2011. I’m originally from Bangalore, India where I found my musical roots. It wasn’t so much me choosing music as much as it was music choosing me. I was deeply impacted by it in my early teens and wanted to spend all my time either singing, playing or writing music. Following that call unquestioningly changed and created my life as I know it right now.
In 2015, I packed a suitcase and a guitar and brought a one -way ticket to Los Angeles to pursue and build a career in music, which I’m grateful to have the opportunity to build at a level I couldn’t have imagined when I first started.
I believe what makes me different is also what makes me who I am. I am an immigrant, and I take every opportunity that I get very seriously because I know how fleeting they can be. On stage as a performer, I’ve honed my skill to be a versatile, charismatic and complete performer that can move an audience. It’s what I’ve spent countless hours working on.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In a city like LA where everyone pursuing an art is incredibly talented as a baseline, what helped me build a reputation is being professional and prompt. I am dependable, will take on any amount of responsibility and do a good job at it. Just learning how to communicate promptly, being on time, well dressed and sociable has opened a lot of doors for me.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Go above and beyond during each performance and give the audience an experience they might have never had.
My mantra is that you need to either make people move, or move people. I try to do both every night that I’m on stage.
