Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to S.V. Hailei. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, S.V. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I definitely feel as if some if not all of my work has been misunderstood. In music, and particularly in hip hop, ppl feel the need to try and put you in a box, and this doesn’t really work in my case because the things that i create are just so different & i say that humbly. A lot of ppl like to call my screamo songs “trap metal” & while yes I do have a couple trap metal songs in my discography, I wouldn’t call the majority of my screamo songs trap metal. There’s really nothing “metal” about those songs except for the beats, vocals, and energy sometimes. I think the correct description for that type of music is “punk trap”. I take a lot of influence from the punk scene & not even musically, but with my swag, personality, & lifestyle, and I put all of that in my music. You add the trap elements. which also influence my life & boom you got punk trap. This happens all the time & led me to realize that some things aren’t meant for everyone to get, and i have to be okay with that. The ones who get it are just like me in one way or another & i appreciate all of them.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Umm I’ve done an interview with yall before, but for those who don’t know i am s.v. hailei from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I first got into the rap scene through producing in high school. I quit that my sophomore year, and picked up rapping because I felt like I could better connect with people if I was the one rapping on the songs. And also cause, it just simply the easier path to go down imo lol. I think what sets me apart from others is my fearlessness, talent, drive, & passion. I don’t really watch others to closely unless I really see you as competition, which is only a handful of people. With music id you have fear in your heart, it stops you from doing certain and that’s not in my DNA. I make whatever type of music I want, I do what i want, and I don’t care what anybody on Earth has to say about it. My talent is apparent, all you have to do is take a listen & again I say that humbly lol. My drive & passion is also apparent. You can see this by how much I drop music & the quality of it. This won’t stop until the whole world recognizes. I am most proud of the fanbase I’ve built so far, and the memories I’ve made pursuing my dream. My music is one of the only things a mf can’t take away from me. It’ll be here long after i’m gone & that’s one of the things I love about doing it. Same with my fanbase, I’m someone who hopefully they can never forget & who’s music touched them in one way or another.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I really want to change the world. I won’t go to deep but I think that starts with my music. My music is a way to introduce me to the world & from there I can do what I need to do to create change. I don’t care if i’m looked at as a bad guy or a villian because at the end of the day I know what my true intentions are, and I really don’t think it’s something but only a couple other people can understand. I do feel like I’m on the right path though, and I can only hope that my journey leads me to what i truly want & desire.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
There are definitely a couple of things non-creatives don’t get about this world. I used to get mad at their mindset & sometimes I still do but I just remind myself that us creatives are wired differently. That’s literally facts you can look it up lol. It’s just something in us that we have to get out whether it be music, drawing, poetry, anything creative. Non-creatives see us spending so much time on these projects & see it as a waste of time because it’s not producing a lot of money or success in the beginning, but like anything in life you have to put serious work in to go far. And im fine with that, as long as I can do what I love whenever I want, im content with whatever happens & this is something they can’t comprehend because they lack a true passion.
