Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to S. Frasher. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, S. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have always had a heart for writing. When I was a little kid, I would take my moms laptop after she went to bed and write stories, and once they were done I would print them off and take them to school so my friend could read them. So I think it’s safe to say I always thought it would be fun to pursue it as a career. However, when I was in college, I felt I needed to pursue a professional career, which led me to grad school and my work as a therapist, but I always was jealous of my friends who were majoring in things like creative writing, but I was very dedicated to my chosen career. When COVID happened, and I was locked in my house, with way more alone time than I’d had in years, I decided to start writing after years of having not at all. And thats when I fell in love with writing again and I didn’t make plans to publish my first book until the manuscript was completely done, but once I had it done, I really wanted to share my story, and I’ve never stopped. I’ve been so lucky to find a community of writers and readers that support me and it seems my stories resonate with some people and thats been amazing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I mostly write fantasy romance, though I do have another pen name were I have published a rom-com and I have another coming out this year (Hello Ranger by Eliza Beth). My fantasy stories span from what I would consider classic romantasy to dark romantasy, but I have really found my niche writing cozy-ish witchy stories in my Pumpkin Spiced Cauldron collection. I say cozy-ish because some of them have a little bit of action and intrigue, but they are mostly vibey. So far the Pumpkin Spiced Cauldron collection is six novellas ranging in topic, coziness, and spice levels. My first witchy story was a novella called Bubble, Bubble, Toil, and Cuddle. It follows Evie, who is a student at a magical boarding school, on a quest to find an ancient relic within the walls of her school, but it ends on a cliffhanger. This year I finally will be completing that story by releasing The Witching Flour September 13th.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Honestly, just creating. The act of making something out of nothing is rewarding in a way I don’t have words to describe (I know, ironic considering I am a writer). But I just think everyone has to find a creative outlet in this world they find enjoyable, even if they’re not traditionally “good” at it, because being creative feeds the soul.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Speaking to my last question, I had to unlearn expectations, both societal and my own. I always say I am a recovering perfectionist, and unlearning the impulse I had to not do something unless I excelled at it really changed my life. I always put off writing because I didn’t think I could write books that were as good as those written by my favorite authors – but eventually I learned that thats not the point. One, everyone has a story to tell and that story will speak to someone else out there. Secondly, being the best at something doesn’t matter, and believing it did kept me from so many years of enjoyment and fun in creating simply because I was afraid of failure.
