We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ryon Gross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ryon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
When I was in my twenties my work experience expanded to different companies and one thing stood out– they all needed help with marketing. Marketing was not a part of my job description, but being a team player was and I found myself helping whenever I could. I was blessed to work with some great people along the way who were willing to listen and take a chance on some of my new ideas. It was during this time that I found my passion for marketing.
I love creating something from nothing, and the level of satisfaction you get when you build something and watch it grow. It’s exponentially more satisfying when you see real results from your marketing efforts. I find it to be so rewarding when I see client’s lives transformed due to new business growth and hiring new employees for their team to handle the growth.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
In 2002, I started doing web design work and quickly realized there was a huge demand for people in the industry who focused on going the extra mile for customers. As the company started to grow, we wanted to find people who shared this passion and thankfully there’s no shortage of talent and dedication at Local Leap. For over 20 years, our team’s mission has been to provide value and do more than we’re asked. When we meet our customers, our goal is to understand the services or products they offer, who their target audience is, and how we can fill in the gaps. We don’t overcomplicate the process and we eliminate the bottlenecks. This has been our formula since the beginning, and it’s what we still do to this day.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
We initially started out with 100% of our business being referrals. Our customers have always been a great source for new business. About 10 years ago, we shifted some of our efforts to search engine optimization (SEO) and being more strategic with the content we publish. This shift has led to 1,400% growth since that time.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A few years ago, I would get stressed when we had big surges with new customers. It’s a great problem to have, but it presents real challenges when customer service is a top priority. A common reason business owners were switching to Local Leap from other marketing agencies was customer service. We know this is one of our strengths, but providing a high level of service to new customers and maintaining that same level of service with old customers became more challenging as we grew. We ended up developing extensive processes to manage our production queue and implemented a ticketing system for website maintenance. These two changes have allowed our team to be more efficient and maintain a high level of customer service.
