Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryley Hall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ryley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in acting and music. It wasn’t until I was sixteen years old when some of my teachers and mentors said that I can make a living out of my artistry. That is when I started to pursue this career path professionally.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started by taking acting classes, music and voice lessons, along with production classes to keep my abilities sharp and to increase my knowledge as an artist.
Currently, I am an actor, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and a producer from San Antonio, Texas. I just released my latest single, “Burnin’ It Down” on all streaming platforms. It was co-written and co-produced with Grammy-winning producer, Michael Morales. I am also working on narrating an audiobook and will be acting in a feature film this fall.
What sets me apart from others is my positive energy and willingness to help at work. I have this drive and desire to learn as much as I can, weather it is on stage, in front of the camera, and/or behind the scenes. This has opened many doors for me.
I am most proud of the music I have created. I write not with the intent to be famous, but to inspire change. I have been told by peers and mentors that I am a hard worker with great energy, yet remain humble and kind as a person. And that is worth more than anything to me.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was sixteen, I began to take my acting and music career seriously. Everything seemed to be falling into place. I was working on my first album, I was signed by my agent for acting, and booked my first commercial! It looked like everything was moving forward and I was really excited! I finished my album, the commercial aired on TV, I’m still continuing to audition for my agent and then suddenly, everything stopped. I kept seeing my peers succeeding and moving forward, booking shows, getting gigs, and I wasn’t getting picked. That really affected my self-esteem. I started to have a lot of anxiety and self doubt. I thought I wasn’t good enough. I really needed to start working on myself again. I had to start believing in my abilities and pushing myself forward. It sure wasn’t easy, but with hard work and patience, I began to re-open myself to the world little by little. That was when everything started to turn around for me. I started to work with a new producer and met some wonderful mentors in acting who I still work with till this day. Through them, I’ve had opportunities to work behind the scenes and on set for short films. I even got to compose for a few of them! Now, I’m doing voice-over work! I booked my first audiobook, and auditioning for animation projects! I also finally booked my first role in a feature film and released my newest single, “Burnin’ It Down!” I even created my own team that’s well balanced and well rounded! It’s necessary to have a good team to help and support you in the entertainment business.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
You cannot do everything by yourself. It takes a team to drive a business forward. It takes the right people in the right mindset to keep you motivated and inspired. I’ve worked with a couple of people in the past where things didn’t go as planned. They never really wanted to help me but use me to their own advantage. Be careful with who you work with.
