We recently connected with Ryland Rubens and have shared our conversation below.
Ryland, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
Working with people as a surf instructor is a pleasure for me. One customer in particular had never surfed before, let alone seen a beach in their life, and was able to process the tips i was giving, and have a great time surfing. Seeing the smile on their faces makes it that much more enjoyable as an instructor.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a professional surfer, surf coach, and San Diego native. I teach people how to surf, but more importantly the fundamentals and ocean knowledge that is required to safely be out in the ocean. I’ve been coaching for about 2 years and love helping people improve!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I feel like a reputation develops over time, with consistency in whatever you do. For me, teaching others how to surf is fun because i have a lot of experience in the field and am comfortable explaining technical concepts to others.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Im a really small business, so for me its all about creating a fun environment where clients enjoy working with me and get expert knowledge to take with them. I think providing a good service and working with good people should naturally develop loyalty to an extent.
