We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ryla Louise a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryla , thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
If anyone were to read about me after I’m gone I would hope my legacy would be remembered as follows:
In the heart of the city that never sleeps, Ryla’s dream took flight. She founded More Love New York, a vibrant art collective, with a mission to infuse the world with joy, one stroke of colour at a time.
Ryla’s artwork was her voice, a playful symphony of colours that could summon the inner child in anyone. Her canvas spilled over with intrigue and nostalgia, and her exhibitions were not mere displays but journeys back into joyful playfulness.
Yet, Ryla’s legacy was more than her own artistry. Through More Love New York, she became a beacon of support for budding artists, a guiding light through the labyrinth of the art world. She nurtured their creativity, helping them find their voices and the courage to share their visions.
In the end, Ryla was remembered not just for her fun and enchanting art but for the artists she uplifted, for the intrigue she ignited, and for the legacy of love and creativity she left behind.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello there! I’m Ryla Louise, and my journey in the world of art has been nothing short of exhilarating. I’ve always had a passion for creating art, but it wasn’t until COVID lockdowns that I truly dove into the world of professional artistry and small business ownership. What started as a way to pass the time became a vibrant and thriving venture, More Love New York.
During the lockdowns, I rediscovered my love for painting and, in the process, founded More Love New York, not knowing where this creative endeavour would lead me. In April of 2021, I joined an international art community, opening doors to boundless opportunities. With this community I ventured into the world of digital art and NFTs, creating and selling pieces that allowed me to explore new horizons. My artistic palette expanded, and I started crafting larger canvas artworks that captured the essence of my inner self and childlike wonder.
In mid-2021, I was in my first group art show. This was a turning point, as it marked the beginning of my journey into the world of professional artistry. As word spread about my unique approach to art, I began gaining clients interested in my art installations, graphic design services, and more, right here in the heart of New York City.
Through my small business, I provide a wide range of creative services, including graphic design, small-scale art installations, and small to mid-scale murals. My work can be found in hospitality venues across NYC, where I add creativity, art, and if feasible, immersive art experiences. What sets me apart is not just my creative vision but my unwavering “can do” attitude and my knack for creative problem-solving.
I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come on this artistic journey. From fun art installations that have captivated audiences to paintings that have the ability to breathe life and intrigue into spaces. Every artwork creation is a testament to my dedication and passion. I pour my heart and soul into each project, and the results speak for themselves.
If you’re ever seeking a passionate artist/graphic designer who approaches each project with boundless enthusiasm and creativity, you’ve found your match. I believe that art is not just about visuals; it’s about emotions and experiences. I invite potential clients and followers to join me on this artistic adventure where my heart and soul are embedded in every creation and every stroke of the brush and pixel tells a story. Welcome to my world of creativity, passion, and More Love New York!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Life has been an intricate tapestry of change and adaptation for me. I’ve experienced multiple pivotal moments, each one shaping me in unique ways and pushing me to grow. These pivotal moments have been like chapters in a captivating story of self-discovery and resilience.
My first significant pivot occurred at almost 23 years old, when I left my hometown of Perth, Australia, and embarked on a journey to Melbourne. This move was an early indication that I wasn’t afraid of change and that I had an adventurous spirit, ready to embrace the unknown.
Whilst living in Melbourne I discovered my love of acting. During my time training in acting, I realised that even within the realm of a single passion, there were various paths to explore. Marketing and Graphic Design had been my anchors, but I soon found myself setting my sights on acting full-time and decided to pivot and relocate to New York, the city of dreams. This was another pivotal moment, as it took a lot of courage to leave the comfort of my home country and seek new challenges in NYC.
Two years into my new adventure, the world was hit by COVID-19 lockdowns. Like countless others, I faced unemployment and uncertainty. But rather than succumbing to the despair of the moment, I chose to pivot once more. During this turbulent time, I transitioned from acting to entrepreneurship, focusing on creating visual art.
This pivot was particularly significant because it brought about an internal transformation. I discovered a newfound sense of self-improvement and inner calm that I had never experienced before. Change, as I learned, isn’t just about the external world; it’s about evolving as a person.
Through all these major life changes, I’ve come to realise that if you never try, you’ll never fail. And while failure can be daunting, it’s also beautiful in its own right. It’s a testament to having taken risks, embraced uncertainty, and pushed boundaries. Change, I’ve learned, is not just necessary but exhilarating. It’s the essence of life itself.
My journey has been a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and the willingness to take leaps of faith. Life would indeed be dull without risks, and I’m proud to say that I’ve embraced them with open arms. With every pivot, I’ve grown stronger, more versatile, and more in tune with my inner self. This, to me, is the essence of a life well-lived—a life filled with the beauty of change and the courage to explore the unknown.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the profound sense of freedom it bestows. It’s the ability to step into a world unbounded by rules, where creativity reigns supreme. As an artist, I’m free to explore, experiment, and adapt, embracing new ideas and techniques without constraints. Moreover, being an artist allows me to reconnect with my inner child, rediscovering the pure joy and wonder that life offers. It’s like opening a door to a realm where imagination knows no limits, and every creation is a new adventure.
But the true heart of this rewarding journey lies in the desire to grow and share. I aspire to accumulate knowledge and experience, not just for myself but to assist and inspire fellow budding artists on their own paths. It’s about building a supportive community where we can collaborate, celebrate each other’s successes, and navigate challenges together. By building a shared creative space, the most rewarding moments emerge, as we help one another amplify the innocence, fun, and wonder that define the essence of artistry.
