We were lucky to catch up with Ryanne Mone’ recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ryanne, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I have to give my mother and grandmother all the credit for putting this idea in my head that soon led to a successful brand. When they first presented the idea of producing fashion shows to me, I wasn’t really interested. I brushed this idea off for a while because I was already a model for so long and knew that modeling was the one and only career path that I wanted to pursue. It wasn’t until I started getting messages from my peers asking me how to get started with modeling that I began to get curious. I have always been the type of person to want to help others in any way possible but this specific type of assistance meant a little more to me. As the messages continued to come in and I continued to provide those resources to the aspiring models that reached out to me, my interest grew stronger. In the winter of 2016 I walked in Harvey Star Washington’s fashion show. As a model, I never really paid attention to the process of putting a fashion show together until I walked in this specific show. I was modeling and observing everything that was going on behind the scenes, all while thinking of my mother’s and grandmother’s persuasive suggestion for me. After modeling in that fashion show, I said to myself maybe this will be a good idea. Maybe I can produce a fashion show. And so I did.
I produced my first fashion show “Enchanted Dreams” in March of 2017. This fashion show was originally supposed to be a children’s fashion show but as word got around that I was producing a fashion show, aspiring models between the ages of 15-20 years old began to reach out to me with interest in walking in my fashion show. I believe that everyone deserves a chance to live out their dreams so I decided to accept those older models as well. I trained the models, searched for a venue, searched for designers, searched for vendors and came up with the scenes in the show. The fashion show turned out to be bigger than I could’ve ever imagined. It was a sold out event! Attendees were standing outside of the door looking in. I loved the whole process of producing and I knew that this was meant for me. Now, here I am, in the process of producing my 6th fashion show and I couldn’t imagine my life without this.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Ryanne Mone’. I am a 24 year old model, fashion show producer and runway coach from Maryland. I started modeling at the age of 6 and since then I have done 30+ photoshoots, walked in 20+ fashion shows including New York and Miami Fashion Week and made 10 TV appearances. After gaining years of experience in the modeling industry, in 2017 I made the decision to start producing fashion shows and coaching models of all ages, sizes and genders. Since then, I became the proud owner of Ryanne Mone’ Productions, LLC and produced and sold out 5 Ryanne Mone’ Production fashion shows.
What sets me apart from others in the fashion production industry is the entertainment and diversity that I bring to the runway. I don’t produce your ordinary fashion shows. Through my models, I give exquisite visulas while promoting fashion in many different ways, sizes, heights and looks. I highlight emerging and experienced designers, both aspiring and professional models and small business owners. My primary mission is to motivate and give everyone a chance, opportunity and platform to live out their dreams through creative means of style and awareness.
I am mostly proud of being an inspiration to others and being that stepping stool for a few modeling careers. I know what it feels like to have a dream so heavy on your heart but not know where or how to get started, especially in the modeling industry. This industry is very cut throat but I strongly believe in making your own way out of no way. Me being able to lead aspiring models in the right direction and give them a platform to live out their dream, is a feeling that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Producing fashion shows has served purpose for not only me, but for the ones who come along my journey as well.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I remember when Covid-19 first started, I was in the process of producing my 3rd fashion show. Everyone (including myself) was so excited that I was producing this Summer fashion show when all of a sudden, everything began to close for a week. But then, a week turned into a month, then a month turned into months and then longer than I expected. I had to cancel my Summer Fashion Show due to health and safety regulations of this Covid-19 spread. I was devastated about this and worried about how long these rules will apply or if I will ever produce a fashion show again. I broke the cancellation news to my models and staff . A week after waiting for those rules to be lifted, I decided to stop waiting and start doing. As I mentioned before, I’m a strong believer in making your own way out of no way and that’s what I did, I made sure that we didn’t lose contact nor stop practicing. I reached out to my models and held group zoom meetings so that we could practice together in our own homes. I also held informative seminars once a week to other aspiring models and entrepreneurs. I found a way to stay on my mission despite the curveball that was thrown my way. If you put it in your mind that you can handle whatever comes your way, you will!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
With being a fashion show producer and model, one thing that I had to unlearn was the idea of fashion being presented in only one way in order to be recognized and received. This is absolutely not true! Fashion can be expressed in many ways and creating your own lane is the best thing that you can do. Be yourself and don’t be afraid to stand out from the norm. You never know who is watching and who you’re inspiring.
