Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryann Lindsey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ryann, thanks for joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
17 kids. In one year as an oncology nurse I watched seventeen kids die. For over a decade, I saw more sadness, death, fear and vulnerability then I was ready for. I actually became a photographer to remind myself of the good moments life brings. Little did I know, being a cancer nurse would guide me as an artist. You see even in their darkest days, my patients found joy. They found life. They found strength. I would watch a patient come in month after month, week after week, day after day, whether it was for a chemo infusion, blood transfusion, hydration, labs, scan, or a variety of other reasons. They found the strength to get through even the hardest of days. You probably are wondering how the lessons I learned as a nurse translate to my photography work today. I learned first hand that death can happen at any given moment. I learned that once someone dies, a photo or memory is all you have left. I learned that photos mean the world to someone who lost their loved one. I learned how to turn pain into power, both personally and professionally. And the biggest lesson, I learned that you can’t take life for granted. As an artist I try to capture the emotion, the strength and the power of your story.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Bring a creative has its own set of struggles. My biggest struggle comes more from the back end of the business. You see sometimes when you start as a creative, you think more about the skill or talent, and less about the “business budget” and organization to keep a business running. I wish I would have know about resources for book keeping, copywriters, website designers, brand designers, tax help services, etc earlier in my career. The best piece of advice, ask for help! As soon as I reached out to experts in various fields, I realized that I don’t have to be good at every single aspect of running a business, I just have to be courageous enough to ask for help!!!!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
This journey we call life is one that has its ups and downs. It is not always easy. I started Ryann Lindsey Photography to make extra cash. I never imagined the business would shift to become my legacy, my name, my footprint on this earth. The idea of the impact I can make during this life and after I leave this world is what drives me to become an artist and storyteller that impacts others I the best ways.
