We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ryann Lanel Redman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ryann Lanel below.
Alright, Ryann Lanel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
This sounds so cliche but for as long as I can remember I knew I wouldn’t have a typical 9-5 job and I also knew it wouldn’t be conventional. I wanted to pursue my dreams of being a creative in the fashion industry as soon as I started picking out my clothes as a child.
Ryann Lanel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ryann (Pronounced ry-anne thanks mom and dad haha) and I am a Wardrobe Stylist based in Los Angeles. I specialize in celebrity red carpet/event styling, editorials, and music videos. I got into the industry I believe the second day I moved to LA 10 years ago. I cold emailed some stylists and assistants and one of them got back to me right away, I became an intern for that stylist, then ultimately an assistant, then moved on to work with other stylists and then branched off on my own. I would say I am most proud of my hard work and dedication. This job is by no means easy and can sometimes be so overwhelmingly busy or nonexistent that the ups and downs test your love and passion for the job. No matter what hardships come my way, they’re outshined by the love I have for fashion, the industry as a whole, and making my clients look and feel amazing.
I’ve had some great career accomplishments such as styling a client for the Golden Globes, as it’s always been a dream for me to see my work at big awards shows. And most recently costumed a movie which was so much work but so fulfilling and exciting.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of doing what I love is actually a few things. A huge one is the partnership in the vision and goal between me and my client and seeing that come to life in the final project. Seeing a look that I put together walking the red carpet, or getting images back from a photo shoot and seeing them in magazines or online is a feeling that’s unexplainable. It feels so incredible to see something I love so much out in the world and knowing other people resonate with or be fans of the looks is a bonus. To be able to create something that’s different and unique is also the best feeling. I of course get inspired by other stylists and how amazing their work is, but truly getting to be myself and put my spin on things as a stylist on my own, is so amazing.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to be the best I can be and remain happy and in love with my job always. There are so many amazing creatives out there doing the same job as me, and I try not to compare myself to them or doubt my abilities based on where I am in my career and where others are. As long as I am always trying my best, staying positive, and I’m happy creating and doing what I love every day, that’s all I want.
