Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Sanderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ryan, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Last year I traveled to Cambodia with a group of local Pittsburgh missionaries who have had a presence in the nation of Cambodia for 30 years. When I first heard the story of what had happened in Cambodia throughout those years, it was almost unbelievable. To see with my very own eyes the fruit of 30 years of people walking and praying, people meeting local needs and those same people partnering with local pastors to see Jesus Christ be glorified in the nation of Cambodia was incredible! It was so special to get to see many of the children’s homes that have been created to support orphan and abandoned children and see those children thriving today. It really touched me as a new parent myself to see these kids and to know they are being raised to know the same Savior I know :)

Ryan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I first started in filmmaking in middle school when making a video was an option for school projects. I instantly fell in love with the process of making films and would go on to study film at Cedarville University. From there I launched out into a freelance career in filmmaking. I primarily work as a cinematographer, working with other directors and production companies. But I also have been able to create different short documentary films about inspiring stories of overcoming. Creating films that move people to action is one of my favorite things to do!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
May Jesus be glorified!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn my passion for film because it controlled my life, it was my god, it was my reason for living. That had to be stripped away before I could see it as it really is, a means to an end but not the end itself.
