We recently connected with Ryan Rubin and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The year was 2009, a week day, sunny and 75 some would say. I’m just joking but it was 2009. I guess you can say I was the funny friend in the group and everyone kept telling me you should do stand up. So I found a comedy club in East Brunswick, NJ called The Stress Factory and they did a weekly open mic so I signed up and did my first ever stand up set and when you get on stage and make people laugh, it than becomes a high you never wanna stop chasing.
Ryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up in New Jersey, started doing stand up in 2009. In 2013 I joined the Unites States Army. I was a mechanic. I met my beautiful wife while in the military, we were both stationed in the same unit in Fort Polk, LA. We got married and re-enlisted and went to Hawaii. My wife gave birth to our daughter in Hawaii which is cool because she has a Hawaiian birth certificate. In 2016 we got out and moved to South Carolina. I continued doing comedy and I can say I’m blessed because I have an amazing family, my comedy career is doing great. I’m getting opportunities to perform on shows all over the southeast. I got invited to join a military affiliated comedy organization in 2023 called the best medicine Brigade. We’re gonna keep going up from here.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistently posting. Social media is so big, the whole world can see you. Always post and eventually people will follow. Sometimes you also get followers for being dumb. I would make (what I think) are funny videos and wouldn’t get much views from them. Than I just decided to be my fat self and roll around pretending to do parkour and got 4 million views and 6 thousand followers over night. It’s absolutely crazy what will take off. What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To be the best and funniest comic to my fullest abilities. Where ever that takes me i’m gonna do it one thousand percent. Imma hustle till I can’t anymore.
