Ryan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I am a very small niche of the business with more of a boutique model of pickleball. I run a single court facility that had a good amount of attention going into the first year, with a lot of challenges and learning curves. Instead of going big box store, Ive kept to the smaller and private expiernce.
Ryan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I randomly found pickleball right around the beginning of Covid. I was looking for a new hobby/ sport to play and randomly went to the park. I then proceed to play my first couple games with these older folks who kind of taught me the game. they proceeded to embarrass me and make me look completely un[-athletic to the point that I was hooked.
I am the only indoor court with AC to have a climate controlled environment. Very big for our community that lives at the beach in Florida with lots of wind and rain.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Definitely started as a side hustle while I worked my medical sales job, and within 7-8 months I was full time with it. Was a lot of work to get business set up while working full time. Its now my full time and looking to expand to a second location as well as launched our new paddle line.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I am not a smart person, nor do I like to read but these books really helped me think out of the box and think Big in terms of my life and business decisions.
