We recently connected with Ryan Perel and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I launched Plating with Perel in April 2020 during Covid, and it all started as a way to showcase my love for gluten free food and raise awareness. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in November 2019, and I had to shift to a 100% gluten free diet (only cure for Celiac). This led me to purchasing gluten free cookbooks for recipes and experimenting with my own too. My goal was to show that gluten free food can get a good representation and raise awareness for those with Celiac Disease/any dietary restriction. Almost 3 years later, I have turned a hobby into more than I ever thought it would be and helped provide a positive impact on the gluten free community and been able to share my passion with thousands of individuals and brands.
Ryan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I launched Plating with Perel as a hobby in April 2020 when I was furloughed from my full time job. Plating with Perel initially started as an Instagram food page to showcase photos of gluten free recipes that I had created. I wanted to write a gluten free cookbook, as I felt the industry was lacking. Over the course of the last 3 years, I have created several hundred gluten free recipes, created dozens of reels for clients/brands, partnered with folks across the gluten free community and even competed on a cooking show.
My services include content creation, recipe development, blogging, brand partnerships, and TV/media appearances. I can be found on Instagram at Platingwithperel, TikTok at Platingwithperel or Platingwithperel.com. I am here to help the gluten free community one person at a time. It’s all about raising awareness and finding a cure. Sharing my food and passion with others is what makes me do this day in and day out
How did you build your audience on social media?
My business is all about social media presence. This started as an Instagram page and key tactics I utilize are share with my network of family and friends, engage, connect with clients similar to you, pay attention to the algorithm, be consistent with posting/stories, create meaningful content. This is all stuff that I have learned over the course of three years and with everyone on social media these days; it’s a crucial part of any business. I have grown my following from nothing to over 5,500 and not invested one dime in buying followers. From Instagram, I was able to finally launch my website platingwithperel.com with partnerships and have dived into the Tik Tok world too. Your audience is looking forward to your posts, and you want to be in a niche and be true to yourself. This will help them spread the message and send others to your page.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part for me is doing something I love as it does not feel like work. If you’re having fun at work, you are doing the right thing. I look forward to creating content and connecting with clients/brands on a daily basis. It allows me to share my story and showcase what I’m thinking through food.
