Ryan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

The idea of Hashtag Colorado Life was born from an idea to help other newcomers and natives to Colorado have the right resources for living in this awesome state. We were in the process of chronicling our own journey of moving to Colorado and felt there was a lack of resources online.

I was born and raised in Colorado, while my business partner Carrie is from TX. So this business venture offered us a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be able to speak to different types of people: natives and newcomers. We were (and are) living the proverbial dream by being able to have accessible adventures right outside our own front door. And we know this is a big reason why a lot of people move to Colorado (or move back, as in my case!).

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hashtag Colorado Life is a simple concept with a lot of resources for locals and tourists. We help people learn everything they need to know when moving to Colorado or to make the most of living here. No matter what kind of budget they have, or questions they have about altitude or driving in the snow, we have a guide to help them. We have more than 150 articles, 50+ podcast episodes, and a YouTube channel with insider tips and ideas for anyone to enjoy Colorado living.

Whether that’s in the most populated cities along the Front Range or tucked away in some small corner of the state, we encourage EVERYONE enjoying the resources of Colorado to tread lightly. Treat this state with respect and we will have a beautiful, natural place to come back to for generations.

After our personal experience of moving to Colorado from Texas and buying our first home in Colorado Springs, we have learned a lot about what it takes to thrive here. From the cost of living to pot culture, there’s nothing like the Colorado lifestyle. Due to the business’ popularity, we put all of our knowledge, research and tips into our new book, Moving to Colorado: Where Should I Live? The book has more than 100 pages of information, comparisons, and checklists to help anyone who wants to move to Colorado.

In 2018 we went through the home-buying process and also detail that journey in the book too. We want to provide as many resources as possible to help someone new to the state make the transition as smooth as possible.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

When it comes to business, I had always been of the mentality that a partnership is the only ship that doesn’t sail. But when your spouse (in my case, my wife Carrie) becomes your business partner you want to make it work! There is no “end of day” when your business partner is at home working with you.

But for us, it works great! Having someone at your side that you know has your back 100% can be your greatest success in business. Plus, our skills complement each other as Carrie has a finance and marketing background and I am a personal chef who was born and raised in Colorado. We have been able to bring together our love of travel into a lifestyle/travel blog and YouTube channel that we love working on everyday.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I have called Colorado home since being born here and Carrie moved here more than 7 years ago. So together we have been able to reach both newcomers and natives to build trust with them from both perspectives. There’s a lot that I didn’t realize about the state since I have lived here so long that Carrie is able to speak to. And vice-versa with me being able to understand natives more and the struggles they have with the state’s growth so quickly.

We focus on teaching people how to live in Colorado and explore the state like a local, even if they just moved here. Everyone wants to find that “diamond in the rough” when they are looking for a place to live or when planning a vacation. And that’s what our travel business offers!
