We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ryan McLain. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ryan below.
Alright, Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes, I am a happy business owner and do not desire a regular job. Of course, it comes with a lot of stress! But I wouldn’t change it today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My company is called Tile Assassins.
You could say I’m “self-taught.”
I learned through experience and determination. The first floor / house i remodeled made my customer cry tears of joy. I found pleasure in making homes beautiful. Now I build entire showers in brand new, luxury homes. A customer can give me an idea and we get creative to bring that vision to life.
We’ve also been tasked with remodeling local restaurants and adding tile murals to the high schools.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Great quality work has definitely helped build a reputation. Getting it done right. I do my best to stay in communication and meet my customers’ needs. A lot of customers and colleagues have become life long friends.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A huge pivot in business (and life) would be when I got focused on my future and left my past life behind. I have 2 daughters to help raise and a family to provide for.
Hiring others to work for me also felt like a pivot, having enough work.
