We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ryan Maxey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ryan below.
Ryan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was fed up with my job as a trash man working 70 hours a week, making about $800 a week just hoping my body wouldn’t break down on me. They gave us one week vacation and we went to myrtle beach with my wife’s family. Her family is big so there was like 25 people in this beachside house. it was like the third day in and we were going to go out to lunch and I was out in the living space dressed and ready to go just waiting for everyone. (You could imagine with 20 other people.) I stumbled a crossed Detailgeek’s disaster detail videos and was instantly hooked on his delivery and how he was able to turn an absolute neglected vehicle into better than brand new. The video explained how he met the client, their exchange, him booking it. Then it went into his process in how he details the car ( which is a truly satisfying process), How long it took and finally the price he was paid. It was like $700 for this interior detail and he said he spent maybe 5 hours on it. So there I am stressed out, hungry (waiting on other people), regretfully counting how many days until my vacation was over. I absolutely dreaded going back to work as it was September and 100 degrees outside and I decided to go a little deeper. He explained in all his videos how to use the tools and left links to the tools to purchase. I compiled that info and saw an amazon cart of $550. this was on a Wednesday. We get paid on Thursday from the trash company and I cashed out my whole check ( left just enough for gas to drive home) on my business from my amazon cart and had it all waiting there when I got home. I left myself zero options. We came home broke but had a pressure washer and a dream. I went to work but at my new business not the trash company and finished that last quarter of the year with about 24k gross. I was instantly hooked.
