We recently connected with Ryan Horban and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success, in my view, is a multifaceted achievement. It isn’t simply about expertise or experience in a particular domain, but it’s also about the relationships you cultivate and the trust you earn from those you serve. In any business, especially in the security industry, we’re reminded daily that while our products and solutions might be technological, our business is fundamentally about people.
I recall an instance where we were working with a local plumbing company, relatively small in scale. The owner was skeptical about introducing GPS tracking into his fleet. He had been running his business traditionally for years and didn’t see an immediate need for change. Our challenge was not just to showcase the technical merits of our product but to align it with his business goals. After a series of discussions, we demonstrated how real-time tracking could help him swiftly address customer complaints, ensure timely deliveries, and even help in optimizing routes to save on fuel costs. A few months in, he reported a notable improvement in service efficiency and a reduction in operational costs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey into the GPS tracking and fleet management industry began with a simple realization: the right technology, applied thoughtfully, has the power to transform businesses in unprecedented ways. Having spent years observing various industries, I noticed a gap where businesses, particularly those with fleet operations, were missing out on potential efficiencies and cost savings.
With a background in operations and a keen interest in technology, I set forth to bridge this gap. Today, as the President of Operations at GPS Tracker Shop, I am at the helm of a company that brings state-of-the-art fleet tracking solutions to businesses across scales. Whether it’s a Fortune 500 conglomerate looking to optimize its vast fleet or a local plumbing contractor aiming to streamline operations, our solutions cater to a broad spectrum of needs.
What sets GPS Tracker Shop apart is our holistic approach to fleet management. Our products aren’t just about showing a vehicle’s location on a map; they are designed to provide comprehensive insights, from optimizing routes to monitoring driver behavior. By helping businesses make informed decisions, we enable them to cut down unnecessary expenses and boost overall efficiency. Our team is also deeply committed to client education, ensuring that businesses, whether tech-savvy or not, fully grasp the benefits of our offerings.
I take immense pride in our track record of trust and transparency. Beyond the technology, we understand that at the heart of every business lies people, with real problems that need solving. Our success is not just measured by the products we sell, but by the genuine, lasting relationships we build and the success stories our clients share.
For those encountering our brand for the first time, I want them to know that GPS Tracker Shop is not just a service provider but a partner in their growth journey. Our commitment is to understand, innovate, and deliver solutions tailored to their unique challenges. In a world awash with technological options, we prioritize relevance and reliability, ensuring our clients always have the best tools at their disposal.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of our top strategies for growing our client base has been straightforward: be the go-to source for all things GPS. We realized many people had questions about GPS technology, and we wanted to be the ones to answer them.
So, we turned to YouTube. We made easy-to-follow videos on everything GPS-related. Whether someone was curious about “How to track my husband without him knowing” or needed a guide on “How to hardwire a GPS tracker to a golf cart”, we covered it. Our aim? Make GPS technology easy for everyone to understand.
In addition, we wrote articles to address common questions. This not only helped us show up more in search results but also showcased GPS Tracker Shop as a trusted expert in the field.
The result of this approach? When people search for GPS info, they find our videos and articles. They see our dedication and come to trust us as a reliable source. This trust has been a key factor in growing our client base. By simply being there to help and answer questions, we’ve made a name for ourselves and welcomed many new clients.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We have chosen to operate our e-commerce storefront through Shopify. While platforms like Amazon, Etsy, and Cratejoy offer various advantages, using Shopify gives us the flexibility and control that aligns well with our brand and products.
The decision to use Shopify was driven by multiple factors. Firstly, it provides us with a tailored shopping experience for our customers. We’re able to customize the design and layout to truly showcase our product features, which is pivotal when dealing with something as intricate as GPS tracking devices.
However, like all choices, there are challenges. One of the primary hurdles has been creating copy that is both informative and concise. We want to ensure our customers have all the information they need to make an informed decision, but at the same time, we strive to avoid overwhelming them with overly wordy product descriptions. Striking the right balance between being detailed and being succinct has been a learning curve.
Additionally, the web design elements, while offering great customization, also require a keen eye for detail. Ensuring that our site is user-friendly, while highlighting the standout features of our products, requires constant iteration and feedback.
In sum, while platforms like Amazon or Etsy might offer instant reach and credibility, having our own Shopify store allows us to curate an experience specific to our brand and our customers’ needs. The challenges, though present, offer an opportunity for us to continually refine and improve, ensuring our customers get the best experience possible.
