We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ryan Greene a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever experienced a times when your entire field felt like it was taking a U-Turn?
Changing the health and wellness paradigm
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After training in the traditional medical establishment as a surgeon, I felt my efforts to help heal were limited by the structure of the western medical system and the inability to have the discussions with patients that were needed to help prevent disease versus address in a reactionary fashion.
Thus, we created Monarch Athletic Club. A space focusing on the fundamental aspects of health and wellness promoting autonomy, healthspan and ultimately independence for all members and the community at large.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I have and am continuing to appreciate I can not heal or help everyone. I can provide a roadmap and a physical space, community and team to assist with the application and integration but I must also realize some people are not ready to make change. It is unfortunate as it will often require a catastrophic health related situation to occur to manifest change but my time and effort must be spent with those that are ready to make meaningful change.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Compassion. Without compassion you can not be successful as a physician
