We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Giolitto recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
In our industry, there is an intense focus by Corporate America on the do it yourself capability. With turbotax, you can do your own taxes, and with quickbooks, you can do your own accounting. The problem with the do it yourself mentality is that both of these take skill, of which most people have never had any formal training or experience in. The time cost that it takes to fix mistakes made in these areas always far outweighs the costs to have someone else perform the work, but Corporate America wants to make everyone believe it is easy to do all of this and that you can do it yourself correctly with ease. This is far from reality in our industry.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Ryan Giolitto, our founder, started a career in tax services in the early 2000’s and quickly became one of the most experienced tax professionals in the Chicago area by mastering the most difficult personal tax situations for high net worth individuals before moving on to specialize in multi-state tax all over the US and eventually international tax.
Foley & Giolitto CPA was formed in 2016 with the goal of creating a different CPA firm focused on providing strategic tax and financial planning advice to its customers.
There are several things that set the company apart from everyone else in the industry, but the most important difference is that we spend more time than anyone in the industry working to improve the financial situations of our customers.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a company, we have had to bounce back from several setbacks, but the most notable ones were from our first year. As you can imagine, there were many issues in our very first year, but the biggest challenge was that the business almost did not even get off the ground. It took longer than anticipated to finalize logistics and negotiations for what would become Foley & Giolitto CPA and the details were pulled together at the final hour, just months before the next tax season.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We met good partners that shared our vision of something better, not just for us, but mainly for our customers and for everyone around us. We kept sharing our vision of something that did not exist, and it led us to where we are today. We will keep growing this vision in the future with continuous improvement each day.
