We recently connected with Ryan Gilbert and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My mission is to capture people in their most pure form. I’m deeply motivated by the differences in human experience and I want to be able to capture those differences. People have always been the core of my work and what I will likely continue to do. I want people to remember feeling good about themselves after seeing their images, and to see them how I see them. I want my work to move people towards each other and further connections.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a 23 year old photographer from the Nashville area. I do portraiture, events, and music photography/video. My company (RGPhoto) provides services ranging from a simple mini portrait session all the way to business consulting and web design. This allows me to serve individuals and larger companies. My goal is to help clients represent themselves in a meaningful and professional way, as well as creating content that is engaging and profitable.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing for me as a creative is seeing people happy about how they look. Taking a picture of someone that they will keep for years to come, hang on their walls is such a honor. I get the opportunity to participate in your life, and capture it. What a gift that is.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2018, I made the grave mistake of selling my first set of gear, and I stopped creating. I massively undervalued the gear, my work, and took a big financial loss. I wasn’t able to fund my business until dropping out of college (for the 2nd time), and that was in late 2021. Since then I’ve completely rebuilt my collection of gear, and my spark to create.
