Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Gaynor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ryan, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?

Hi I’m Ryan Gaynor, when I was 22 and fresh out of college I didn’t want a traditional 9-5 and so I decided to start my own math tutoring business. I was working part time at a restaurant and I really wanted to help people like my parents do, I was good at math and enjoyed working with kids so I thought why not. I was lucky because I knew a lot of people where I grew up so I reached out to my community over and over until someone hired me. I knew the best way to grow the business was going to be word of mouth and so I really focused on helping my students feel comfortable with the material and teaching them strategies for studying and test taking. Then eventually we would talk about anxiety and I would help them with that. That one family in the beginning told many people thankfully and it expanded from there. A big risk I took was cutting down my hours at the restaurant and then eventually quitting all together even though I didn’t have more students. I knew that I needed to free up that time and they will come and they did thankfully. Then years later I hired tutors that do other subjects and now we cover most topics from elementary to high school and some college. We really pride ourselves on putting lots of focus on the work and how they are feeling, getting them to a comfortable place, instead of focusing on the outcome which will trigger anxiety in most.

Now in the last 3 years I wanted to expand my help even more and I became a Hypnotherapist launching my own practice here in Los Angeles and on video calls. I am helping so many more people on another level now on top of still tutoring. I have my certification from world famous teacher and hypnotherapist Paul Mckenna’s Mind Valley program. I have also been very lucky to have been taught The Kerry Gaynor Method from my father Kerry Gaynor who is a very successful Hypnotherapist in Los Angeles for the last 40 years. My father has helped thousands and thousands of people from all over the world including many famous people beat their addictions, anxieties, weight loss, fears, pre surgery prep, and more. I am so blessed to have this knowledge and my father in my corner and now I get to help so many people do the same. It’s truly and incredible feeling to do what you love and make an impact on people’s lives. My advice is when you start your own business you need to treat every single client with the utmost respect, listen deeply, and put all your focus on the present work with them, continue to study hard, practice hard, and your clients will spread the word.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I grew up with 2 parents who were always and still are helping people and that was a huge inspiration! My mother working with less fortunate people in clinics and non profits, and my father saving lives with his incredible hypnotherapy methods.

What sets my tutoring business RGTUTORS.COM apart from others is that we take it way past the comprehension of the material, we relate to the students, find out the best way they learn, teach studying and test taking strategies, and more. Our ultimate goal is to empower them and build their confidence up to a level they have never felt before. I am most proud when a student or parent tells me that I or one of my tutors really helped them feel more confident and understand the material much better which gets them through the class or the school.

Hypnosis is a natural state that everyone goes into each day, like when you are waking up or kind of falling asleep on the couch. I don’t create it I just guide you into it. Once you go through my induction then I can speak directly to your subconscious, which runs everything you do good and bad. The only side effects are positive ones because you want the help. I can’t get you to do anything you don’t want and I can’t get you to do anything harmful. It’s truly an amazing process that anyone can benefit from.

What sets my hypnotherapy business RGHYPNO.COM apart from others is that I want my clients to understand that if they feel stuck in something, I can teach them how to get out of that and live in the world the way they want without something else running their life. The addiction program and other programs my father Kerry Gaynor has created are truly incredible and now I believe that I will be saving thousands and thousands of lives as well. It’s a transformational process that we teach them.

I can help someone quit smoking tobacco/nicotine, vaping, weed, alcohol, and other drugs in just a few sessions. I can help someone prepare their mind and body for surgery so that they heal faster and have much less pain which means they won’t have to take big drugs like oxytocin. We have an epidemic of people becoming drug addicts after having a surgery and I want to help them so that doesn’t happen but they need to see me before the surgery. I can help people lose weight and create a new lifestyle where they will never worry about this again. I can help people be free from anxiety or fear, test anxiety, peak performance for sports and entertainment and more. I am most proud when a client tells me that I helped saved their life and or change their life for the better.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I think building a great reputation is the key to any successful business so I always put a lot of focus on going the extra mile. For me it’s not just about teaching the material or helping someone beat an addiction, it’s about truly listening, relating to them in the best way I can, being consistent about showing up and keeping in contact with them. For my tutoring clients I always make sure to keep in touch with the parents and update them on how their child is doing. I also always make sure that we are working towards a place where they feel so much more comfortable with the material and school in general.

For my hypnotherapy clients I am very present and I push them in the most respectful way to get them to really truthfully see what they are doing to themselves. Then I teach them many things and get them to understand that this is a partnership and if you apply what I’m teaching you and really connect to it then together we are going to save your life!

I always approach both businesses with respect, compassion, no judgement, and open ears to listen to what my clients have to say.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

If I could go back in time then yes I would choose the same profession because I’ve always felt happy and not stressed. I am very lucky to say that I get paid to do something I love and also to not have much stress. I have met many people over the years in different professions that make much more money than me but they are so stressed and over worked and they complain about it a lot. I never wanted to be in that position, but I do want to be able to make a great living doing something I love so I will continue to expand it and be my own boss. It’s risky and I do have to sacrifice some things but in the end it pays off. I believe that physical and mental health is so important and that many people do place enough value on it, I’m here to change that and spread the word. Keeping your stress levels low is more important than most people realize and unfortunately many realize it too late.
