We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Furman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
When it comes to Realtors, not all are created equal. Just like any other industry and profession, there are people who are good at their job, and those that are bad at their job. Too many Realtors are in it just to get paid and move on to the next client. Not me; I remember purchasing my first house and how terrible my agent was. He didn’t explain anything and I was always in the dark during a time that should have been exciting, not terrifying. I have made it a point to explain to my customers what’s going on every step of the way, keeping them in the loop, and helping with anything that I can. I never want a client to walk away from their purchase or sale feeling annoyed, agitated, or anything negative. Plus, my service doesn’t end when the transaction is closed; I’m your Realtor for as long as you’d like after the process.
As far as being a nutritionist, I will give it to you straight. I do not sugar coat anything or mince words. That’s what I’m known for in the industry. If you give me excuses I will call you out. If you’re being lazy, I will tell you directly. Your health is the most important thing in your life and it’s not something to beat around the bush on. People who come to me for help know that I will not accept excuses.
Ryan , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a family of real estate developers. Growing up visiting project construction sites with my parents, and learning the ins and outs of the business behind the scenes, I developed an affinity for real estate; helping my parents manage projects. In 2002, I moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University, fell in love with the valley, and have been here ever since. During my time here, I have been immersed in real estate, working in property management and completing several of my own fix-&-flips. I have a strong business oriented mind and deeply understand the idea of property investing, as well as the importance of finding a home that you will truly love to live in. I have spent the majority of my life learning real estate principals first hand and am ready to put my knowledge to work for you.
I used to be a huge meat eater. I used to eat as much as I could. And to be fair, I was eating based on what I had been taught my entire life; the food pyramid. Then, at 27, I had high cholesterol and chronic fatigue. Why, in the prime of my life, did I feel like garbage? I did some research and landed on the whole food plant based diet. I decided to give it a try and never looked back. The change that I feel is amazing, and profound. I decided I needed to share this information with as many people as i could. So, in 2014, I got my certification in plant based nutrition via Cornell, opened up Mainly Plants, and the rest is history.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
In real estate, it’s my attention to detail, and my strong desire to make the whole transaction as stress free for my client. My whole business is built off of word of mouth. So, a happy client tells their friends and so on. The home buying/selling experience doesn’t have to be as cold and stressful as so many realtors let it be.
As a nutritionist, it’s my non-nonsense approach to getting you healthy. If you’re coming to me, it’s because there is a problem with your heath that you are looking to fix. My clients know I will give it to you straight, while also understanding the difficulties in changing a mindset.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
In both my businesses, it’s attention to detail, being a straight forward ally, and keeping the human element intact. Too many people are focussed on the paycheck. But if you do your job well, put solid effort into it, and care, it pays off dividends and your paychecks will come in tenfold.
