Alright, Ryan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.

Risk? How bout starting up my home inspection business? I didn’t have any connections, was fresh outta schooling, and had just sunk a ton of time and money into this big gamble. There was already plenty of competition in my area, and I had enough sense to realize how often new businesses crash and burn. But ya know the thing is, I felt like I was being called to do this. Like destiny. Do you believe in that kinda stuff? I personally believe in a Creator that loves us and even died for us as Yeshua (Jesus), so yea, I believe in miracles. And you know I was prayin to Him about it all! And thats really the key factor. Every big choice, I took it in prayer to Him. And its like he just kept opening doors for me. Advertising, building a website, getting clients, and then being surprised at how thankful they were for the job I did! Sure I had trained and gotten advice, but only God could make my business into a success. Do you think that sounds stupid? Well its years later now and I still see the miracles happening. He leads me to the best clients and connections, giving me just enough (and more actually) than I need. I’m tellin ya, when you give your work to Him, it’ll still be hard, but you will be amazed at how He works in you.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

You wanna know somethin? People hate uptight and robotic people. We hear so much about on the job professionalism and workplace etiquette. Blah blah blah throw it all out and just be yourself (unless your an asshole. But then you should really just work on not being that before trying to do anything else!). I worked for too many corporations and listened to hours of training videos about customer service…Its crap brothers! You wanna stand out? Then give em somethin real! Talk to em like your friends and they might even become one. I dont mean to be inappropriate, but again, if you have creepy issues or somethin then stop what your doin start readin the bible and come back when you’ve got your “stuff” together (see? I can still be professional too!)

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?

So when I was about to start my business another inspector approached me and wanted me to train under and work for him. He is a great guy and it was a tempting offer. After all, I would have guaranteed money with him as opposed to gambling on my own success. But I had been praying about everything regarding this adventure, and I wasn’t gonna stop now. After praying, I felt I should turn him down. Well by the grace of God, my business took off thriving. A year later, this other inspector (and new friend) wanted out of the game. So he offered to sell me his business (the 1 he wanted to employ me for). I bought it at a great price and made more than I spent off the cost. But getting to know my new friend Kenny was the best part by far. Just another proof how great it is to listen and follow what the holy spirit is leading you towards (assuming you have the holy spirit in you. If not, I advise reading the bible and/or contacting me about studying it together!)
