Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Danley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ryan, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
🎃Halloween•horror•cult classic🎃
🖤one of a kind: fashion tees & goods for the ghoulish mortal possessed by a spooky lifestyle🖤
Ryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
DOA CO. was born out of passion & desperation. Started in between musical projects.. I was in line at Halloween horror nights and created an ideal to have Halloween, horror, cult classic fashion tees & spooky goods for those who love the creepy and macabre! I was distraught from a bands breakup and knew I needed to decompress and create a fun, profitable business that allowed me to be creative and in a fun environment. I’ve always loved Halloween and horror films. After goin to horror conventions for a few years I formulated some ideas and opinions on the merch available at these shows. And once I opened Pandora’s box and decided to do this the ideas started flowing as well it was perfect timing with Instagram. 2017 was a crazy year where a ton of companies like mine found it readily available to start a business online.
My goal for DOA CO. Is and always will be to provide spooky goods in the theme of Halloween, horror and the macabre. I want to design fashion tees that are unique and not following social media trends. Something a true fan of the subject whether movie, tv etc can feel proud to wear.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
So I hit Instagram just at the right time in 2017 when small business boomed on that platform. I quickly learned about hastags & other growing strategies as well reached out to similar business‘s for giveaways and promos. It was a really rad time where a ton of similar companies were in group DM’s and promoting each other.
Every day I made sure I posted and interacted with the community hastags to garner attention for my brand. It can be tedious and time consuming but you have to go where your customers are right?
My advice is to make it a daily habit like working out or taking a vitamin. And have fun w it, be creative and think outside the box. Also it’s imperative to interact and answer DMs.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
After I got goin with social media. I definitely realized that though I can make sales online, in person conventions / events are where you are able to have brick and mortar retail and face to face transactions. The world is moving into digital retail but there is still something to be said about the in person transaction. And so I pushed the company into being present and presented at horror conventions in the south east.
So conventions / events are my best new source of introducing DOA CO to new customers
