We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ryan Conklin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ryan below.
Ryan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We are excited to launch a new concept in hearing aid industry, The Hearing Lounge, your hearing aid repair shop regardless of where your purchased. In audiology there is rarely a need for prescribed medication, surgery, or being uncomfortable in a waiting room. Often times the technology changes so fast that was you learned in school even 5 to 10 years ago is obsolete and most patients just want to simply hear their spouse. We saw there was a need for more relaxed environment and after 5 years of running the business we are ready to execute. We want our customers to know they can be relaxed and count on us for all of their onsite hearing aid repairs regardless of where they purchased it from. Often times we pay hundred or thousands of dollars for 90 seconds with the doctors and get pills that do not function the way we would have originally anticipated. We pride ourselves on educating clients on hearing loss and spending the time to make sure they know why its important, for example the johns hopkins dementia and balance study. We will fix that statistically proven 5-10 year fight you have been having with your spouse in a new relaxed environment that you will want to come back to. This will reinvigorate the love and communication you have with your family, when you can understand them and they can understand you!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I didn’t shut down one day during the pandemic unless I was directly infected. Enough said
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I really pride myself on starting the business with no loans. I worked out of 6 different offices rented by the hour to build the business with only a backpack full of audiology equipment. I lived really humbly at the time and knew I would be in control of my destiny if I put my focus into the business. It really is persistence/perseverance through trials. However I want to be sure when I am in a position I will give people chances like the chances I got when starting the business. I know they are out there I just cannot name them directly (bc even I don’t know them). So although I may not have started with capital I built relationships who gave me something better than capital, the access to help people. Which brings me to the third aspect, faith. You don’t need capital to start a business you need persistence, perseverance, and faith. I am looking forward to being in a position where I can help small business leaders grow in faith of themselves instead of writing loans with interest.
