We recently connected with Ryan Carroll and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I do wish I would’ve started my Dj’ing career earlier but everything happens for a reason. My furniture in my living room when I was around 5-6 years old was DJ equipment. My dad had Techniques. First record he bought for me was Kris Kross. My mom threw my sister and I parties every year so we always had my mentor DJ Rome at my crib spinning. He use to leave his equipment over my crib til the next morning and I use to turn everything on just to play K-CI and JoJo all my life. That was my jam but after that life happened. I was playing ball and working and getting my career off the ground as a mechanical draftsman for 10 years.
I didn’t start djing til I was 30. Maybe it was the right time for me. Life settled down somewhat. I had a kid which meant I wasn’t running the streets as much so I went and purchased me a controller and the processed beginner from there. Maybe if I started in my 20s I would’ve been more attracted to the things that come with djing rather then the craft so I honestly think I started at the right time

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the industry thru one of my connects named Mark Baker. A legendary party promoter and vibe curator I’m NYC who has been in the game for 2 decades. He put me on to one of his spots and I haven’t look back since. Thank you my brother. Working with hIm also showed me that practice is key. I must play regularly and also cater to the people and energy that’s in the room. Since then I have scaled up. Been working at different venues regularly doing weddings overseas, boat parties, corporate events, and grad parties. Since I have more experience and have accumulated more equipment I can curate a night to remember. Nothing makes me more proud seeing people vision come together thru the music I play and aesthetics I provide. I love lighting and great quality sound. So important to me and my customers.
I want people to know that I take what I do seriously and I work hard at it because I am passionate about it. It’s in my blood. I never rushed the process and I feel that makes me more organize and more prepared for events because I go hard at everything I do when it comes to my entertainment business. Communication. Is key. I never want to just grab a gig for the money. Please let me know your vision. To me that’s most important. Making night memorable is key to me.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I always knew about social media Ofcourse. I’ve been using it for decades at this point but it’s so
Important. Social media is essentially your resume for most DJ’s so it’s important to document everything and create content. Never waste an opportunity. Post your mixes to your SoundCloud or mixcloud. Don’t worry about people copying your mixes. If you good at what you do don’t worry about it. Djing is a copycat game anyways. Just put your spin on it.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What’s driving me today is what has driven me my entire life. I come from nothing but always wanted it all. . I am self motivated. I always wanted to be great I also been a hard worker. I always been consistent with whatever I want. Quitting has never been an option. I have two boys now. I want them to know that whatever you want in life you have to outworked the next person to keep
It. That’s my mentality
