Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Cagle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ryan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
When I decided I wanted to have a natural birth I did so simply based on the fact that I didn’t want an epidural. I had no knowledge about how much better natural birth can be for everyone involved, I just knew I didn’t want a shot. Thankfully I had a cousin who had had a home birth who I could reach out to for guidance. Having a natural birth changed my life, I fell in love with birth, the whole pregnancy and birth process, and wanted to share it with the world. We know birth through what we see modeled for us. I desire to leave a legacy of knowledge of how incredible birth can be, that Mothers and Fathers are active participants in their pregnancy and not simply at the will of societal ‘norms’. I’m proud that I’m raising children who will know how to prepare themselves for birth, know how intricately God designed their bodies for pregnancy and birth, and how precious and valuable that little baby’s life is inside his/her Mother’s womb. My love of birth has overflowed onto each of my children who have loved learning about how God made a woman’s body to grow, carry, and sustain another little life. I pray I have made a lasting impact on the families I’m blessed to serve through birth pool rental and teaching Birth Boot Camp childbirth classes. They are modeling other options for their families and children. We have an incredible birth community in North Texas that I’m proud to be a part of. I can’t wait to see all the ripples of our love and devotion to birth in the years to come. My greatest joy, of course, are my own little ones, my little birth junkies, they are my most important legacy!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ryan Cagle. I am a Birth worker in Fort Worth, Texas serving the DFW Metroplex through birth pool rental and childbirth education classes.
I fell in love with birth after having my son in 2015. My husband and I had taken Birth Boot Camp childbirth classes online and were delivering with Certified Nurse Midwives and a Doula present. In the beginning I simply wanted a natural childbirth because I didn’t want a huge needle going in my back. As I learned more and more about birth from our classes and our doula I began to see all the benefits of having a natural childbirth. Everything culminated once I actually gave birth to our precious boy. My life changed forever in that moment. Not only was I holding in my arms the most amazing gift from God, I also knew that God’s design for us as women, is perfect. The Lord made women to be the vessel through which he creates new life. He made our bodies to give birth. I believe with the proper education and support most women can give birth without medical intervention, if they so choose. I want to help women be an active participant in their birth process and be proud of what miracle from God they can accomplish.
We have experienced the loss of a second precious child, early in pregnancy, and have since added another little fella and a little lady, to our crew. They were both born in fast and furious labors at home (planned home births).
I went through instructor training with Birth Boot Camp in October of 2016 so that I could help other couples learn all about birth and empower them to feel like they are in charge of their experience and not simply along for the ride.
I teach primarily private classes, out of my home in North Fort Worth, that range from a two day class all the way to our ten week comprehensive. I enjoy teaching out of my home because I feel like it lends itself to being a very comfy class environment where couples can come relax on couches and open up about what questions they might have regarding birth and the whole process.
In 2017 I added Birth Pool Rental to my business offerings. I purchased our first pool for the birth of our third child but his delivery was so quick we didn’t get to utilize it. One of the things that was important to me was that we also offer couples a partial refund if they are unable to utilize the pool due to precipitous labor or transfer. Our Birth Pool Rental services include delivery of the pool and all necessary accessories needed for labor by 37 weeks so that Mom and Dad can be confident that they have everything they need should baby decide to arrive earlier than expected. Couples also have no deadline or late fees if their little one hangs out the full 42 weeks + They simply call or text me once their precious baby/babies have arrived and they are ready for me to come pick everything up. It’s important to me that this is as easy as possible so parents don’t have to stress about anything pool related. I currently rent the Regular and Mini sizes of Birth Pool In A Box Pools with their size and brand specific liners included.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Absolutely the biggest help for my business has been referrals by the amazing Midwives and Doulas in our area. Without their support I wouldn’t have been able to teach classes or rent out my pools to many. My business is run exclusively by me while I’m also running around being Wife and Mommy. I am eternally grateful that those midwives and doulas hold me in such high regard that they entrust their sweet clients to me.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am a Christian and a Conservative and I’m proud of who I am and what I stand for. I think that we currently live in a time where a lot of people think you have to say that you’re ok with everything in the world to succeed and that’s simply untrue. I know that I have people who have sought me out because they want someone with my values and they want to be able to share their views in class without being ostracized. I have continued to maintain in person, maskless classes, when a lot of the world went virtual. Being able to still come to classes and sit down in my home and chat about birth brought me clients who didn’t want to sit in front of a screen.
