We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ryan Ann LettBrown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan Ann, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I actually never had the intention to start my own practice but the further along I got into my career I realized what the massage therapy industry needed more of and while I was grateful to work for some of the best, I need to institutionalize my ideas into motion. Life is too short for regrets!
I’ll fully admit it was hard and there are still days that continue to be a challenge! Starting a small business and growing it isn’t for the faint of heart. I didn’t have much to go on and had to do a lot of research and trial on my own. I realized though that talking to the community around you is everything and taking that information into your business, listening to others stories really can help you along your own path. Not to mention having a village of like minded people is just the best because it can feel lonely at times too. I will say that looking back at this journey- I wouldn’t change a thing!
My advice for anyone starting would be to take it slow-one day at a time. Take deep breaths often and find your community!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I originally got into massage therapy due to a car accident in Georgia that left me in a lot of neck pain. The only relief I found was after seeing a Neuromuscular Therapist. I was headache and pain free after months. I dropped starting a nursing program and decided to seek out massage therapy!
I fell head over heels for the pain management aspect of Neuromuscular therapy and dug deeper, finding fascial release techniques. As a forever student I constantly do research and take continuing education certifications to better my toolbox so to speak. I love it!!
I’ve designed our practice at Natura to really take the whole person into perspective. I’m a big believer in the power of manual techniques but also including movement into sessions to maximize the outcome. This is why we offer corrective movement and mat sessions alongside our signature table massages. We have so much more coming to offer our community to better incorporate the whole body design. Including breathwork classes & one on one sessions early fall!
With pain management being something we pride ourselves in, we really love taking the time to hear our clients stories so we can better understand and help them. Our clients are what allows us to do what we do! They deserve to be heard and cared for.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Trust.
People come to us for a reason and we build on our relationships with our clients. They know we genuinely care about them and that we will listen to their input alongside our professional opinion. Our clients know their body best, we’re here to help solidify their care and show them what their body is capable of.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Get out there within the community!! Talk to anyone and everyone that is doing their thing. All small business owners get it. Network til your exhausted, then get up and do it again. You never know what connection is going to be the golden ticket to what you need or what the other business needs. We’re all in it together.
