We recently connected with Ryan Adams and have shared our conversation below.
Ryan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningfull project I’ve ever worked on started gradually by accident . It was a painting I started on the side. One that I was painting for myself. One which had zero stress connected to it and I could paint whatever I wanted to entertain myself and have fun doing it. So with that said, I asked my girlfriend to pose for me so I could practice painting women realistically.. I placed her to the side to maximize space on canvas cause I was thinking about a collage. We ended up going our own ways but I had that unfinished canvas. So months pass and so does reality. Sometimes things happen in life that inspires you to act. In this case it was the signs of the time I was living through. For example when our government left billions of dollars worth of military equipment behind in Afghanistan and pulled out of the country so hastily without any concern for the people. Or when the Chinese spy Ballon was not shot down untill it flew over every military base. Just bizarre things were continually happening like transgender day declared on easter Sunday and men playing in women’s sports. It was like living in the twilight zone. Then the border being wide open while saying it wasn’t while loads of drugs pouring in was killing so many. The prices of everything getting out of controll. Something was way off and I could feel it. This wasn’t the america that I knew. It was somthing else and it started to worry me a little because I’m a patriot who loves the truth. See I already had my suspicions before our last administration even started. It was a no brainer that they stole the elections. Suppressing the hunter biden laptop was just a small part of what the left did to cheat. Jan 6th was a bullshit set up. I could back up to the duram report. Hillary Clinton is a cheater and a real piece of work to pay for and instigate the Russian collusion BS. So much BS, deception and lies to the point where I said ok, if our president wants to represent such a legacy then I better document it. Besides, if we were all gonna die, I needed to tell the story so future generations understand what happened cause a nuclear war was reality with Mr biden. So the Joe Biden legacy painting began. That’s when I turned my girlfriends lingerie into an American flag and painted her green representing lady liberty and the united states. To me our country seemed to be killing ourselves from the inside out. Selling everything important to her including herself. America was like a prostitute pimping herself out untill she dies. That’s why she’s lighting the American flag on fire. I just now remembered, I’m going to put fetenal pills falling out of her hand. Mr biden destroyed the oil industry and weaponized the DOJ. Wars raging, the murders in Isreal by palliative downplayed and celebrated. The attack on Christianity and parents in America. Just one wrong thing after another. The painting wasn’t over untill his term was so there’s the assassination and then kamala. Strait bizarre shit happening. I even tried to think of good things he might of done to represent his legacy but had nothing. There’s a tree with money growing on it and a ball of covid as the plane engine. And how can we forget about the fake news. I could go on. It is what it is and the truth will set you free. I just observed what was going on around me that’s all. This is not a left or right thing it’s just reality. It happened and guess what, it’s all true and now being exposed. Now that DOGE came along we understand how such a bizarre administration and party was able to lead this movement around the world…the democrats were stealing trillions of dollars from the taxpayers for a long time. Thieves, liars and criminals so many of them are. We need accountability. Bigtime. This is just the truth so if u can’t handle it, u need too because the jig is up. The people are finally back in controll don’t label people cause I’m from California and am a artist, and I’m proud to be a conservative.

Ryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a visual artist who was born and raised in the central coast of California where the dominant thing Is tourism. So between being from a family of artists combined with my environment I grew up in and then understanding the tourism economy was never gonna fade I started painting on canvas. It wasn’t untill after I graduated from a community college and started Humboldt state university that I onc3 in for all changed my major for the last time, art studio. Truth is I was born with messed up ankles which influenced my life in different ways.and recently had to get reconstructive surgery on both ankles. So this influenced me growing up because it was going to be rough standing on my feet all day in a job. So I used to draw alot when I was really young. I like drawing alot and had a huge imagination. Sometimes I would get depressed not being able to figure out what I was gonna do. I was in college and worked too and at home painted. All I did was match my major to what I was already doing at home. To me it all made sense. When I thought about what can I do that I could be better than most at, and generate money. So I became a painter. Nobody else knew it was gonna be forever, but I did. You know I just said fuck it, let’s roll the dice I could do it. And I did. And I always worked full time at basic jobs while I painted and claimed that’s what I was and do and check this one out, can I do one for you? I’m glad I never listened to my teacher because I birthed my own style. I start with a detailed pencil drawing then bring the paint. Are there rules to painting? There’s a canvas, paintbrush and paint. How you get it on there, what style you creat, what and how many colors u use combined with what idea you have is up to you. I never really felt like blending my paints to achieve a more realistic look. I thought my drawing would get me there, but when the paint covered the pencil, I would lose my accuracy. So I would paint right up to the pencil line. Then the other side .I would get frustrated because I wanted to be better. I was trying to impress myself with this different style of mine. Taking on reality portraits of people to animals to real life situations like being in a concert or riding a motorcycle. And when I could see through my paint, I added another coat. Because my style is a layering thing I would keep coming in with colors trying to correct any mistakes. Eventually it takes on a life of its own while I keep bringing in more colors constantly enhancing the ones I already had like a red to metallic red. That’s how u get the vibrant looks I get. I just wanted to make a living from doing it so it had to be good. I always challenged myself with the subject matter and then to top it off, I would never give up on a painting untill I liked it. I never say damn, I screwed up, and throw it in trash. To me I started it, I’m gonna finish it and it’s gonna look good. End result is usually exciting. Exciting to the eyes cause there’s so much color represented without blending . Like a stained glass window. Facts are my paintings take me way to long to do, but i still do it. I use way more color than most artists and metalics are a huge part of my paintings too. My originals glow on the wall. Add my psychedelic flow style and what u get us somthing Noone else is doing or have done before. In fact my style has been there from day one and can even be seen in my ceramics. Truth is it’s very rare for a artist to paint turbulence and atmospheric flow in a painting naturally from day one. I believe van gosh did, so did I. When I traced back to try and find my influence of my style I came to this conclusion … it was the music. The first 10 years of My life I would draw while my mom played guitar and sang. At ten a had a drumset cause I would always hit everything. To this day I’m a percussionist but what I’m saying is the rhythm and flow of music while I drew became the reason why my style was born. I mean sure van goghs work was one of my favorites but I always thought it was a way to keep me interested in the painting . It is just difficult for me to just use one color in a large space. There’s so much room for more colors or extra style. Some have said my paintings can be busy . Yeah it’s true. Have I ever over painted a painting? Yes I have and when I do I really go wild on it untill it somehow, some way looks exciting and still captures whatever I was trying to paint. Have I ever gone to far and screwed it up,? Yeah too many times. But many times the results can be visually impressive. U might have to stand back to see it in its most impressive form but I gaureentee it will never get boring to look at and the color explosion of a multitude of acrylics like pearl, glow in the dark, gloss, metallics and flat turn it into eye candy that dominates any room on the wall. Pointallism I often utilize and recently realized my style creates insanely beautiful abstracts. Put it this way, u get your money’s worth when u get my work. Ive never painted the same thing twice. I have been called a fauve which makes sense cause I am a wild beast. I’ve had some serious collectors buy my paintings and often have at least one commission in the world. To me I try to impress one painting at a time. I’d rather have 4 Uber exciting paintings in one year than 24 average ones. I guess I care more about what it looks like over how much money I make cause my caliber of work stays the same no matter who it’s for or what size or how much I got paid for it. I’ve accepted that I’m not in it for the money so I paint on my own terms. Recently I started painting the ceiling, then the floor then my brain with awesome ideas like what if a created a painting you could walk into, literally. Where I live is at the end of a road with Noone in sight. 150 yrs ago it was a school house. Civil war troops camped here. I’m creating a paint and sip Air BNB .Where you can stay overnight in a art gallery and practically one of my paintings itself. A creative retreat while you visit nashville. On over 20 acres the plain air nature trail will feature two spots to choose from with canvases already set up. Or choose to get a lesson from Me. Or let me paint a portrait of you. So many fun creative options. My mom is a songwriter so playing live by the firepit is a Givin. I’m excited for this creation retreat of mine and am only a few months away from being able to share it. 2 canvases and a bottle of wine and I will drive you to nashville and back. Sweet, can’t beat that with a stick. UNCORKTHECANVAS.COM coming to a creative couple near you, because u will drive here. I will be your comedian host, lucky you. Oh yeah did I mention all my paintings on the wall in the gallery you can purchase. Once I get you in here staring at them over night while u create wonderfull memories with your new creative inspirations you will get attached and want to buy one. I hope. Lol. I’m just ‘not’ kidding. I can be reached on my already established internet art gallery at gottheskills.com or email [email protected] make your reservations today.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I guess there is…. to practically pull off the impossible. To get paid good money to paint. To be able to attain financial freedom in the most comfortable way. To own my own home . To be acknowledged before I die by making thousands of dollars from each painting. To prove to those who think I’m crazy that I am crazy. Maybe make enough money to travel and paint the world. One driving factor for me from the beginning has been the excitement of being in the moment and unexpectedly painting a stunning beautiful pin up style portrait for someone, usually a woman I often just met. I keep it classy and it’s fun for both of us. Like in the titanic movie. No money can compare to the expierence of posing live for a timeless painted portrait . Keep it real

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me it’s the response I get when people first see it. Most of the time I get this response “you did this?” It’s a great compliment. I believe I get great reactions from the people more so than from the critics the way I see it we have cameras to document reality so my job is to accentuate reality. Make the picture vibrant with visuals and exciting content and ideas . My style combined with a generous amount of colors often gets mistaken for a computer generated image. I’ve been asked often to sell NFT’s which I plan too soon. I like to paint meaningfully motivated pieces that make people think or react in front of. For instance the painting I’m showing here in this article is one where a close friend was spreading the ashes of his daughter. For those who know, the ashes in the urn arrive in a big plastic bag so when he’s throwing white ashes out of the bag looking like a hippie some people assume it’s cocain and the woman is stressing like noon don’t do that so they start laughing untill they read the title ‘ashes over the Rouge ‘ and then start crying. I watched it happen before. If I can get peoples emotions to swing like that from laughing to crying in same minite than I feel like I succeeded. Recently this kentucky magazine had a call to artists for front cover and I submitted. The magazine is called SOKY for southern kentucky.. I wanted to come up with unique idea but wasn’t sure if they would show it cause it features a illegal activity. It’s no big deal but the youth of Franklin Kentucky would all get together on the weekends in the m8ddle of nowhere and most likely drink and party just like all high school kids do. One day someone had a can of spraypaint and sprayed whatever on the road. This must of became a tradition because it was all over the roads. I thought that’s cool, noones hurting anything besides a little color for the tree trunk. Lol. There’s tire burn marks everywhere. There’s even signs in the city banning it.reminds me of the movie footloose. Any way I captured it on canvas . It will be on the front cover next month in May. . I actually did a tic toc on it over a year ago and used my own footage from that post to paint it. I enjoy making people think. In california I won front cover of vino magazine in Paso Robles. It’s where I’m from and when I realized that morro rock, the largest freestanding rock in America, in morro Bay was a ancient volcanos inner core that solidified and then the ground fell away being eroded by ocean I thought wow, literally a cork in the earth. So I made the rock look like a wine bottle stuffed in the earth. U see it through a wine glass.with words somewhat hidden in painting. A theme I’m known for, words hidden in my work . Just realized words are in my ‘spray paint road’ painting too. Hey you reading this, the idea is just as important as what it looks like. What’s your idea? Whatever it is, let me bring it to life in my style and you won’t regret it. Commission me and I will hook you up for real! Are u in your idea? How about all of your pets you have ever has all in one painting . I got the imagination and skill to do it. Cheers. Gottheskills.com
