We recently connected with Ruxandra Tudorica and have shared our conversation below.
Ruxandra , appreciate you joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
In order to succeed in the book cover industry, I had to optimize my workflow and create characters or objects according to my clients’ specifications. A pivotal moment for me was incorporating 3D objects into my workflow, despite the initial learning curve and reliance on tutorials. This helped not only with the character design, but also transforming the entire composition and lighting. It was truly a game-changer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Ever since high school, I’ve been passionate about photomanipulation, the art of ‘melding’ various elements into compositions. This passion turned into my profession when my artworks caught attention on the social media, and someone suggested I venture into book cover design. I took their advice.
‘Methyss Art’ was born around seven years ago, and I’ve been offering custom book cover services ever since. My work predominantly consists of blending 3D elements, stock photography and digital painting. Additionally, I provide custom illustration services from scratch, encompassing both ornamental designs and character design.
The central theme of my book covers revolves around fantasy with a twist, adding a touch of darkness. I’m drawn to exploring dark fairy tales, mythology and the occult. Music also plays an important role in my creations.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I consider myself truly privileged in general to work in this field, artist offers numerous rewards. Being an avid reader myself, I find it really interesting to collaborate with authors and bring some life into their scenes or characters, and translate their stories into eye-catching book covers. Seeing the orange-tag of a Bestseller with my cover on it on Amazon is truly rewarding.
Another aspect I can deny is when authors choose to collaborate with me, a human artist, in an era that becomes more and more dominated by the AI (Artificial Intelligence). I respect and value the trust that I’m given.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My main source of new clients comes through recommendations. While I acknowledge the importance of having a good social media presence, especially when working in a creative field, I’ve always found it unreliable and a bit exhausting.
