Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ruth Soto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ruth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was my latest album “Nada Es Imposible” which was submitted to the latin grammy for consideration. What made it special was it wasn’t about me anymore. It became about spreading the gospel and putting the Lord at the center. For most of my life, I avoided my calling, which unfortunately led me down a self-destructive path where I felt lost and alone. Now I feel my life is filled with purpose and hope.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began my singing career at the young age of 16 in the local Seattle hip-hop scene. I had the opportunity to perform alongside many local and national artists in some of the most prestigious venues in Washington. At the age of 26, I sought a new adventure and decided to pursue making Latin urban music. This decision marked the turning point in my career, as I became the first-ever winner of the Seattle Univision’s Latin Music Awards. Additionally, I connected with a music manager who facilitated my involvement with the Latin Grammys, leading me to become a member of the academy. In 2023, I devoted myself to my faith following the path that had been my calling since I was a young girl, despite having previously run away from it due to my rebellious ways. My latest album is a testament to how the Lord has changed my life and my biggest hope is to spread God’s love.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Every time I step onto the stage, I feel a connection to something greater, a shared human experience that transcends boundaries. The smiles, the applause, and even the thoughtful silences from my audience fuel my passion for the Lord and drive me to improve continually. Music, in all its forms, has the profound power to touch hearts and change lives, and being a part of that beautiful process is incredibly rewarding.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In my early years, my mother and I looked after my father and grandmother. My mother is my inspiration, and I appreciate the tremendous dedication she showed in supporting us on her own, despite our financial struggles. She exemplified hard work and commitment, which motivated me to save every penny I earned to pursue my debut album, staying focused on my dream.
