Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ruth Galdamez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ruth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
About 20 years ago I was working in the banking industry in a very stressful and fast paced career. I read an article on Pottery and how soothing this art was to the Potter. I began a series of classes and found myself immersed in the world of Pottery.
I presently work on my Pottery in my home studio. It continues to allow me to relax in times where my work in ministry with women and marriages gets overwhelming. It is also the only time my mind totally focuses on what I’m creating on the potters wheel. A time where no other thoughts can distract me and this is a way for me to decompress. I totally recommend it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a multitasker! I love working on multiple projects at the same time. Projects end and that’s what I love about it. One ends and another one begins.
My first love is Ministry. I attended the Allender Center as a student looking for answers on my family of origin trauma. I became certified in Narrative Focused Trauma Care. Training is rooted in trauma-focused narrative therapy. This unique approach to healing from trauma equips lay ministers to engage the significant stories of individual’s lives with courage, compassion and skill, opening up pathways towards more joy, freedom and purpose.
This combined with my artistic mindset of pottery gives me the opportunity to engage people and help them heal of past traumas.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe having the capacity to recreate yourself is most rewarding. The sky is the limit. Try something if it doesn’t work try something else. It’s never a failure because you stepped out in faith and did it. You learned something right? You enjoyed it? That’s all that matters. Life is meant for us to enjoy and to be curious about what is next…
Presently I’ve created a Body Butter because I have extremely sensitive skin. In my quest to be healthy I decided to create a product that works for me. Seasons Body Butter. I am now selling it and it’s doing well. You can find it on my website.
Never stop creating…God designed us to be creative because he is a creative God. Just look around and see his amazing creation!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal and mission is to bring healing to the hurting. I was a victim of sexual trauma as a child. Evil tries to destroy our ability to create and keep us in bondage to our pain.
I desire to see Women free of shame and pain. I want to help them heal and thrive by being curious as to their individual gifts and talents to create and enjoy this beautiful life we’ve been given.
We are creative beings because our creator is creative and we were designed in his image.
