We were lucky to catch up with Ruth Belmonte recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ruth , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my mission as a makeup artist is to inspire other artists based on my skills and techniques.
Ruth , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started doing makeup when I was 18 years old. I looked at the team and the MAC store in San Antonio at the time in the early 90’s and knew that is what I wanted to do for my career, I was so mesmerized by the style and beauty of the whole team and how amazing their applications would come out, and how talented everyone was. I meet a couple of amazing artists when I started who pushed me to my best and taught me so much at that time. I stayed with Mac for over 20 years and ending up leaving 2014. That year I lost my father and change was definitely on its way. That was the most difficult year of my life for sure. That year I learned who I really needed to become and how I wanted to make my father so proud of me. In 2015 I met my husband Tony Belmonte, which is also an amazing artist. He really had pushed me to become so much more and kept telling me I needed to open my own business which we did in 2016 And that’s when Beauty with a twist launched. We offer great makeup applications for weddings, graduations and even hold technique classes to teach. We have had such a great time teaching and making beautiful people more beautiful.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for new clients is just always promoting yourself everywhere you go, making sure you always have cards on you and that your very approachable.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Of course I met Tony on a blind date through a friend, we talked for hours about goals and plans for the future not knowing we both had the same thing in mind. The best thing about our relationship was we became friends first before we got into our romantic relationship. And now we are married :)
