Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Russell Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Russell, appreciate you joining us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
I started Stathom Fitness 18 years ago as an in person one on one personal trainer. I would visit clients in person limiting my business to the city I lived in at the time, NYC or Miami respectively. As COVID took its hold in 2020 I began to transition my clients in person sessions to one on one zoom calls where I coached them in the safety of theirs homes from my living room or outdoors in my condo complex in Miami Beach. This opened my mind to the endless possibilities of remote work in my industry. I began researching ways to effectively coach clients at a higher level without the commitment of having to stick to a specific appointment time. Free time and flexibility are two assets in life my clients and I both realized were more important than ever during the shut down. Now I operate an online coaching model where I program individualized fitness routines, eating plans, and mindset and recovery activities through my Stathom Fitness app. Instead of being limited to the few hours my clients and I used to spend with each ether each week, we now have constant contact through weekly check ins, in app messaging, and community calls throughout the week. This has allowed me to reach more clients then I ever thought possible and with this level of accountability the success rate of my customers has improved 10 fold.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 15 years. I began as a cycling instructor in NYC. My career path has led me through various disciplines in the heath and wellness industry. I currently hold certifications form The National Counsel on Strength and Fitness, The Athletics and Fitness Association of America, Mad Dog Athletics, and am a Master Educator for Stages Indoor Cycling to name a few.
I currently provide 1:1 online fitness and lifestyle coaching services through the Stathom Fitness brand. I coach busy, professional, 35+ gay men who like to travel often in techniques to eliminate skinny-fat, become confident AF naked, and achieve the abs they had or wanted in their 20s. You don’t have to give up your vacations, after-work drinks, or carbs. And you do it without endless hours in the gym, meal prepping, or a ton of cardio.
The Modified Macro Method allows you to develop healthy habits so you can keep the positive and healthy changes you develop in the program for a lifetime. Our approach is focused on getting our clients to be self sustainable so this is the last time they ever need to hire a fitness coach.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Stathom Fitness uses organic marketing on social media to connect with the clientele who really will benefit form our services. We also rely heavily on word of mouth and referral so we can spend less time on advertising and more of our resources in caring for our clients needs.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building a brand on social media is all about showing up and building equity with your audience. Get them to trust you, to know you, and connect with you as a person. The coaching environment we foster is about developing deep personal relationships with our clients and that begins at the very basic level of sharing who we are as a company, as people, on social media. The more vulnerable we are the more genuinely our clients will be willing to open up about their struggles so we can work together to develop healthy habits.
