We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rusel Alrubaae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rusel below.
Hi Rusel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking risks is the best thing you can do for yourself, but also the hardest. That’s what I did when I moved to LA to try acting and leave everything comfortable back home. It hasn’t been easy to say the least, but 100% worth it.
Rusel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I feel like my whole journey illustrates my resilience. I had so many problems coming my way when I moved here. The first thing that happened to me was that American Airlines lost my luggage. The only stuff I had that reminded me of home, everything valuable that I loved and brought with me, was gone. I rented an apartment for two weeks so I could look for a permanent place in the meantime, the first night I found two humongous cockroaches in the apartment, and I have entomophobia. I had to knock on the neighbor and ask him to help me. This is only the two first days in LA, you can imagine how much more I had to endure through my journey here, by myself, in this country that I’ve never been to before, all while missing my family and everything comfortable back home. And yes, I kept going and I’m still here today, 1,5 years later! And no, I never got my luggage back.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To do something I love as my job. I can’t see myself doing anything else that I would enjoy as much as I enjoy acting. When I’m on set, I feel the best. I love every second of it! I relate to the characters I play and every single one of the characters I’ve played has a part of me in them. It is so fascinating, every character has taught me something valuable.
