We were lucky to catch up with Ruby Stathers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ruby, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Since I was young, I enjoyed spending time drawing in sketchbooks, and looking at art for the sense of expansion it brought to the mind. I never thought I would pursue it as a career, though, because I picked up that working as an artist was only possible for a select few with great talent. So, I continued on, unsure of what I truly desired, picking up a hospitality management degree related to my love of travel and being in that atmosphere of welcoming others’ while they’re experiencing exciting adventures. I wasn’t feeling fulfilled or that comfortable in these roles, I realized after a few years. At the time, it boiled down to my lack of confidence and difficulty in expressing anything other than my authentic emotions. “You’re not bubbly enough,” they told me, as I left what I thought was my dream position.
Then I was given some wise advice to take a look at what did bring me comfort and joy as a child, and that other thing, still blocking out art, was nature. I became increasingly interested and invested in this by returning to school to earn a degree in forestry. Working in this field, I was feeling much more fulfilled and proud to be assisting with the protection of our forests. Over time, this physical work was getting to me. A back injury occurred from overworking one time, and it would occasionally flare up again if I wasn’t careful. This told me I needed to take another deeper look internally to really ask myself what would feel most aligned.
I picked up painting canvases as a hobby after an intro to painting course during my first college experience, and very slowly worked art back into my life. I opened an online shop once I had several creations to share, though this was still only managed in my free time. This interest in art snowballed overtime, and as I spent several months looking for the answer, I kept hearing back, art. I was practicing meditation and catching up on self-improvement frequently at this point in my life, gaining confidence from rewiring my thoughts, noticing the limited beliefs, and guidance from those who found success. This is when I decided to go all in, which honestly it has only been several months since then. I am continuing to listen to my soul and Source, feeling much more connected as I can see how this journey that I continue to explore can tie together through helping others expand their consciousness, ultimately for humanity’s evolution through balancing emotions and well-being through the physical (nature) and metaphysical (spirit) realms, along the way.

Ruby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Painting on canvases started as a hobby. I had visions and ideas coming in all the time. As my mind opened up to new ways of thinking and being over time, it came to the point where I thought these were just too good to be stored in my system, so that others could also reap the benefits. My style has gone in cycles of change, from landscapes to surrealism, to now combining in spiritual aspects. In hindsight, these cycles have matched my lifestyle changes of traveling and working receptionist jobs in beautiful parks, to then working within the forests, and now, as I am more in tune with my spiritual side than ever.
At my lowest point in life, I spent a few years living in an unhealthy relationship filled with stress and insomnia, and so I sought relief. For a while, I focused on painting individual herbs to share their medicinal benefits, because they helped me get started on the right path out of a serious health issue. Then I learned the correlation of stress to bodily conditions, and so the mysterious health issue’s appearance was solved. I incorporated stress reducing habits and then came across neuroplasticity. All of these things allowed me to heal. If you allow me in your circle, following along and/or joining my email list, you will naturally build curiosity and gravitate towards these healthy lifestyle choices.
I love to share this story to guide others who may be going through the same things. As our minds awaken to these natural cures, I’m excited to take it a step further and offer commissions to help us heal and evolve. You can come to me with something you’re struggling with, or deeply resonate with, knowing I am not here to cast judgement, and I will hold the space, so that you can come to your own empowered conclusion of what it is you’re truly seeking, with a message that will help you through my visionary art. I believe these visions are messages directly from the higher realms.
Other things I enjoy creating are digital collage edits from my photography, short videos made out of the art, designing functional things, and aromatherapy jewelry.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Share art that speaks to you with people you think would love it. This ripple effect could be more powerful than you may imagine. Also, normalize buying original work over mass-produced prints found in big box stores. A bonus of this is it’s a more eco-friendly approach to consumerism.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Creativity, like anything else, improves with persistence and introspection. I have had a lot of varied experiences in my life, living like a nomad for over a decade. I’ve had to unlearn negative ways of reacting, pull myself out of unhealthy attachments, and heal a serious health issue. My soul has always been empathetic and relentlessly determined to follow passions through, and I am at my best now that I can express this. My sense of fulfillment is on another level, knowing that I may lead others to one day start walking toward their own place of peace, by deeply appreciating the remedies of the natural world, and stepping into their unlimited potential for all to benefit.
