Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ruby Mimosa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ruby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve created is my show BurlesKaraoke. After years of performing but never producing, stepping into that new role felt equal parts exciting and intimidating. But the experience pushed me to trust my intuition, stretch my abilities, and ultimately build a show that has become a beloved staple in our community—something I’m genuinely proud of.
Producing BurlesKaraoke has taught me how to structure my days, promote effectively, and confidently serve as the face of my own business. It’s helped me grow more patient, more understanding, and much better at setting boundaries around my time, energy, and expectations. I’ve learned to communicate with a wide range of people—performers, venue teams and owners, patrons, DJs, sponsors, photographers, advertisers, and more.
Leaning fully into producing my own show has been incredibly rewarding and transformative, both personally and professionally.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A little about me: my name is Ruby Mimosa, and I’m known as the Effervescent EnterTeaser. I’m honored to have been voted one of the Most Influential Burlesque Performers in the World by 21st Century Burlesque in both 2021 and 2022. My work is defined by a signature blend of athleticism, dance, theatrics, and sparkling charm that I’ve been fortunate to bring to stages around the world.
My performance journey started early—I began ballet at age three, later expanding into musical theater, jazz, and even competitive diving through college. After moving to Seattle in 2006, I was recruited by The Atomic Bombshells, which opened the door to an incredible career. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of performing and teaching throughout the US, Canada, France, England, Portugal, China, and Australia.
I’m passionate about creating shows that highlight the incredible talent in Seattle and working with live bands. I created a show with these two mediums called ‘The Sound of Strip!” There’s something magical about pairing live music with burlesque, and it’s a combination I hope to bring to even more stages across the country.
My career has included collaborations with Grammy Award–winning artists Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, the Seattle Opera, and an array of drag and burlesque icons. I’ve also been part of the core cast of ‘The Jinkx and Dela Holiday Show’ —and their Hulu special—touring internationally every November and December for the past eight years.
At the heart of everything, I love to travel, connect with new people, dance, and entertain. It’s truly my greatest joy.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. My guiding mission—both personally and creatively—is simple: have fun. It may sound a little cheesy, but I truly believe that joy is an act of resilience. Life is too short not to create spaces where people can laugh, feel good, and share in something vibrant and uplifting.
When I build shows or step onstage, I aim to cultivate joyful, positive environments that naturally inspire more of the same. Burlesque, with its playful blend of sexiness and comedy, offers endless opportunities for connection. It allows us to step outside the everyday and experience something a little magical, a little cheeky, and a whole lot of fun.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my career happened in March 2020. When the pandemic hit, live entertainment came to a sudden stop. Like many performers and producers, I found myself wondering how to keep my work—and my community—alive. BurlesKaraoke was one of those shows I desperately wanted to keep going if it was possible at all.
My KJ, Baby Van Beezly, had just had a baby and also had a little one at home, but she was still ready to brainstorm with me. We met on Zoom for days, experimenting with equipment, formats, timing, and tech to see if we could recreate the magic of our show virtually. We needed a way for audience members to sing the song of their choice while a performer was spotlighted—still with no idea what the song would be until it started, just like the live experience. And we needed smooth transitions, with DJ music filling the gaps so nothing felt flat or empty.
After a lot of trial runs—and plenty of laughter—we launched our virtual BurlesKaraoke. And to our surprise and delight, people from all over the country and even internationally logged in to be part of the joyful chaos.
Looking back, that period was incredibly special. It brought Baby (our KJ), Beau (our stage and screen manager), and our community closer together. We connected, created weird and wonderful art, supported one another, and had something fun to look forward to every month during such a hard time.
When we returned to live shows in September 2021, the energy was unreal. Our audiences were bigger and more enthusiastic than ever—something I truly believe happened because we kept the spirit of the show alive virtually. We’re endlessly grateful to our friends and fans for riding that wild, beautiful wave with us.
