We were lucky to catch up with Rri Povey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rri, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
Throughout my 26 years in business. I have had the pleasure to receive many amazing stories, and uplifting moments about different people, wearing my clothes, on different occasions, for different purposes, that claim such happy and celebratory memories. Such as, one mother watched her and her neighbour’s’ children, all wearing one of my tie-dyes, joyfully playing and running around in their backyard. There were about six, under ten year olds. While the mom watched from inside her home, she told me the sight was so heartwarming, it brought her to tears, at the beauty of the colours and the happiness.
Many people mark the tie-dyes they have purchased, from me, with pleasant memories and bright self expression.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I began my business, as a tie-dye artist, I was a young single mother with undiagnosed ADHD. Finding it extremely difficult to fit into Neurotypical work environments, or meet the required expectations thereof. It didn’t take long to feel comfortable in an entrepreneurial situation selling my hand dyed creations. The positive feedback and requests I was receiving were very inspiring. The next thing I knew some stores and boutiques wanted to carry my work and I slowly built my business from there. Eventually, making a retail shop a reality and building a solid long-time clientele. My reputation as a tie-dye artist is global. Yet, as a neurodivergent artist, there are many challenges to overcome when expanding or reaching a further audience. Learning new techniques for online exposure. Keeping relevant designs and styles. Responding to customers and following up on orders.
One of the wonderful aspects of my work is that it is wearable and very visible. Because of that, it sells itself out in the world as people wear the clothes I dyed.
My tie-dyes are distinguishable from others due to my colour palette, and long time experience in folding techniques. I take so much pride in my work, and I am constantly heartwarmed, and inspired by the people who, continually, year after year, and multigenerationally, include the clothes that I dye, with my two hands, in their every day lives and wardrobe.
It’s a true pleasure and honour. Years ago I began my slogan, being, “ happy clothes for happy people”, because I was seeing an ongoing theme with the folks, young and old, who were attracted to the bright bold colours and happiness they invoke.
In my opinion,if I can add joy and happiness to this world, whilst making a living, my life is truly blessed.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients for me has been word of mouth. As of recent, the past decade, or so, online presence has also been a good draw. As tourists or visitors come to my demographic, my Rrijoice Tie-Dyes showroom comes up on Google search and several hashtags.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Making beautiful colourful brilliant clothing is one of my strengths. The results sell themselves. Yet, the experience I offer my customers is more than a simple purchase. In person, which the majority of my sales are, one gets a glimpse into my off-grid lifestyle and organic gardens. As well as, a friendly safe place for children to feel free and seen, and, traveling pets to stretch their legs and get a cold drink, to a compassionate ear for those who may need a moment to talk. I genuinely connect with each one of my clients and many have become friends, and recommend me to others.
