We recently connected with Roz Robertson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Roz thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Even though the majority of what I do now is painting furniture, I’ve always been a collector at heart and I love old things but the fun of those old things is to make them new or into something different entirely hence the name New Old Finds, this also applies to furniture and making it into an item that will be enjoyed for many more years! I appreciate the time to tell my story!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
One-of-a-kind Heirloom Pieces Bring Charm To Your Home
If you’ve ever wanted an heirloom or custom piece of furniture for your home but quite simply didn’t know where to start – I understand and I try to fulfill the need! I want you to get that one-of-a-kind piece that perfectly compliments (or inspires!) your decor.
I scour flea markets, estate sales, thrift stores and even some of my own secret sources to bring you the best in old, unloved and past-their-prime pieces that I give new life too with decoupage, transfers, inventive painting techniques, and from-the-heart hand painted touches for stunning results on furniture and decor for any room in your home.
I’ve been featured in national magazines, taught at local and cross country events and given live one on one classes.
I’m currently a Brand Ambassador for a well known DIY company and I have a booth locally at a store called The Mkt in Acworth Ga (formerly known as Woodstock Market)
Stop by and say Hi, I work the front counter on most Sundays!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Side Hustle isn’t quite the right term, more like Collector that turned into a hobby and then turned into a hustle! When I moved here to the States from Canada 20 years ago I came with nothing, I had to buy everything for my house so I would scour garage sales, estate sales etc for things I would need, If it didn’t work with my esthetic or didn’t fit I would clean it up and resell it for a small profit. This had a domino effect and when the time came for my daughter to get into a big girl bed I found a cute 4 poster that needed some love. I painted it up and a nightstand and everyone loved it, word got out so I started to do other big girl beds and dressers and it just kept on going, and now it’s 12 years later lol I get to create and do what I love every day! Who wouldn’t be excited by that!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My customers know I’ve always been a stickler about quality. I will take quality over quantity any day of the week and that applies to furniture 100% They know the love and work I put in to refresh and create a one of a kind piece that they can enjoy. What is mass produced in today’s market is throw away furniture, meaning it will last you a few years and then you throw it away (or donate it) and get new. Did you know that 9 million tons of furniture goes to landfills every year? I’d like to think that I’m helping to drop that number even if just a small amount! Buy from a local artist!
I only work with solid wood pieces, some that are over 100 years old! I know with my hard work they will last another 100 years!
