We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Royale a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Royale, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was about 4 years old when I realized how passionate I was about the Arts. I found myself so entranced listening to music of artists’ my mother and grandmother would play, eyes glued to the TV whenever a music video would come on. I would sing along to all of the songs I heard on the radio, and I realized then that I had the ability to do what these people were doing. The feeling I got from singing along with my favorite artists was feeling I had never felt before, but I also knew it was a feeling that I never wanted to go away. From then on, my mission to be an entertainer never stopped. Every chance to do something that required performing, I took it. From talent shows, to plays, to choir, to drama club, to dance teams, I did everything and anything to put myself out there because I knew that entertaining is my calling, and nothing was going to get between me and my goal of being an entertainer.

Royale, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Royale and I am a singer-songwriter, dancer, and actor born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts I started writing my own original music at about 17 years old. I have 3 releases on all platforms so far, ‘ItBoy’, ‘Deja Vu’ and most recently, ‘Motion’. I am heavily inspired by R&B and Pop music, and being of Caribbean descent, my culture moves through me and is present in all of my musical decisions and choices. I look at myself as a multi-faceted entertainer, someone who specializes in different spaces of entertainment, and is able to excel at them all. I think my authenticity and my drive and true passion for entertainment sets me apart from others, I can’t be anything else but me, and I never want or will try to be.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal/mission behind my creative journey is to be authentic and transparent in my life experiences, emotions I feel, and use that in my music hopefully to inspire, motivate, or provide insight to somebody who is listening. I’m an emotional creature, that’s the water sign in me, and if I don’t express the way I’m feeling, I close up. So, I use my music to feel all my feelings and I put them there. I want to spread joy to as many people as possible through my music, I want people to feel all there is to feel when listening to my music, whether that be to dance, laugh, cry, etc.. the message is to feel all there is to feel.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that there are so many lessons and life teachings that are learned just simply by pursuing your art. There have been many times where things have not gone exactly the way I had planned, or times where you may not get the exact results you may have hoped for. But, it builds you up and helps you have the ability to navigate certain situations where you may not always be in control. For me, control was a big thing, because when you have control, you have comfortability. But, in comfortability, there is no growth. Being placed in situations that are new, having to alter the plan you set for yourself, and coming up with new ways to approach a situation, all help in the process of growth as an artist. Growth is so important as an artist because if there’s no growth in you as a human being, there will be no growth in your art. Also, just the simple fact of being able to pursue the thing you love is so rewarding in and of itself, you can never go wrong when you do what you love, and what feels right.
