We were lucky to catch up with Roxy Ramirez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Roxy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. So, we’d appreciate if you could open up about your growth story and the nitty, gritty details that went into scaling up.
Hi, thanks for having me. Yes, you’re absolutely right, entrepreneurship looks a lot different from the outside, but once you set foot in it, you realize it’s an entirely different ball game. Who doesn’t want to be their own boss, make their own schedule & set their own rates… sign me up! lol
We’ve all seen that reel that says: “I didn’t want to work a 9-5, so I started my own business, now I work 24/7” Yup, that’s really it.
You pretty much set yourself up to wear all the hats with managing your business; administration, marketing, accounting, customer service, & even IT to some level. However, I have to say the hardest one for me has been putting myself out there. Working Corporate, you do an interview, you get the job & you show up. Running a business though… you have to constantly be the face of your business, sell your business, get exposure & get known!
Those who know me would never use the word “shy” to describe me, lol. I am a friendly, outgoing, loud laughing individual, yet somehow I struggled with transferring that over as a business owner.
We start off with Social Media, get that IG & FB going, teach yourself how to use TikTok, lol & upscale to a website for online presence. The real stuff is in the networking, Who is Roxy? What does she do & why do we need her? Now it wasn’t just about being myself, but about being myself plus showing you what I am capable of & how I could be of service to you!
Roxy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course! I’m Roxy, owner & founder of ReOrganized Refreshed; a Home Organizing service. I believe it all starts with our homes, it’s our foundation & our base. Our homes are what we come to after a long day out in the world, home is where we watch our children grow, home is where we cook & enjoy warm meals, home is where we could be our truest selves, it’s our sanctuary! ReOrganized Refreshed focuses on the ease of that home, its functionality & practicality. It’s Home Organizing to help you free up space & time, it’s home organizing for real people.
What I mean by real people is, we’ve all seen the videos with the containers, bins inside bins, with dividers & baskets etc. You love them, I love them, they’re mesmerizing, but sometimes not necessarily practical. Unless you have someone maintaining this on a daily basis, hate to break it to you, it will not last. lol
ReOrganized Refreshed wants to make it functional & practical, it still wants to use the clear bins & pretty baskets with the labels, lol but in a way that works for you. First we discuss what you envision, we discuss your budget & your day to day lifestyle. I want to organize your home without throwing off your everyday flow, if anything; want it to be easier. You’re a lefty? so maybe the cooking spoons to the left work best, let’s keep that. You hate folding towels? so maybe rolling works best, let’s not add an extra stress teaching you new folding skills, unless you want to, lol. You’re sentimental & have a hard time ridding older items? let’s create a memorabilia section.
I like to start off by categorizing & sorting, this makes it easier for you to decide on what you’re keeping, trashing or donating. Then based on the space, accessibility & use, the organizing happens!
My client’s reaction to the end result is by far my favorite part. Seeing their facial expressions, sense of relief or even that deep sigh, almost like a weight has been lifted. If that’s not enough, those items you no longer need/want, I load them up & distribute them amongst several non-profits, so your organizing is also a way of giving back!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Given that I am being invited into my client’s homes & having them share their personal spaces with me, I want to present myself as humble & as approachable as possible. So often the first thing my client will say when I walk in, is: “I’m so sorry for the mess”. My response: “do not apologize, this is your home, & I am honored to be welcomed, I am here for it!”. There is absolutely no shame in having clutter, having a mess get out of hand, or just having things out of place, happens to the best of us. What’s important is that we acknowledge & seek help, the best thing any of us could do. We can’t do it all, we’re not always great at everything, why not seek a professional to at least give you that kick start.
I often focus on how to reflect that zero-judgment aspect when doing business. I’m so okay with your mess, I want to address your mess, I want to see your face when the mess is gone! I will get on my knees & reach toward the back of the cabinet, I will dig through those boxes you have no idea came from & I will sort through your kids dried up play dough & sticky toys. Please understand, this is what I love to do, this is what I live for.
That definitely takes a weight off my client, when they know they don’t have to worry about being judged or frowned on, just a friendly mom coming over to give you a hand where & when you need it.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Majority of my new clientele comes from either Facebook or Word-of-Mouth. ReOrganized Refreshed caters to the home makers, which are most often females & most of those females; moms! I joined several FB Mom groups as well as female-only FB groups, & that’s where I tend to share my services info. I’ll either get a text saying; “hey, I saw your post on FB” & that’ll get the conversation started, or i’ll get a text reading; “my friend gave me your number”.
Honestly, I wished all of my clients came from referrals, because that means the trust is already there. Your bestie, your neighbor or your sister gave you my info because they believe in my services & they’d like to share that with you. You reached out because you trust your bestie, neighbor or sister… & that just gets me all giddy.
