We recently connected with Roxanne Rhoads and have shared our conversation below.
Roxanne , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I often joke that I was born with a pen in one hand and a notebook in the other. I always wanted to be a writer.
Books were my first love. I spent my summers hunting through the stacks at libraries looking for new worlds to explore.
Because books were so influential in my life I wanted to write, I wanted to offer that escape, entertainment, and knowledge to others.
Growing up I entered every writing contest that was available in school and wrote for the school newspapers. In high school, I wrote for the local newspaper’s teen section. In college, I wrote for the university newspaper and several local publications.
In 2005 I started professionally freelancing writing content for many websites and digital publications. I also started writing fiction. I’ve been writing professionally ever since. I have written both fiction and non-fiction books.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve worked in many aspects of the publishing industry – as an author, ghostwriter, freelance writer, editor, and publicist. I’ve been traditionally published, I’ve worked with small presses, and I’ve self-published.
In 2010 I realized authors needed an affordable way to market themselves online and created Bewitching Book Tours. BBT offers virtual book tours where authors virtually visit blogs, podcasts, and websites to share details about their books. Now we also offer social media promotions.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I am always blown away when people show up to book signings just to see me. I’m always shocked when they want to take photos with me and have me autograph their books.
This is funny because I go to book events all the time and do this with other authors. Authors are my rockstars, I will fangirl so hard when I encounter an author that I love.
I guess, I just never expected to have that effect on other people.
It feels really amazing, though. It’s incredible to hear that someone loved one of my books.
That’s why I write, to reach people, to give them enjoyment. I know what books do for me. I want to give that to other people. If one of my books touches just one person, then it’s worth it.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Without artists, the world would be a very dull and boring place.
All of your entertainment, almost everything you see around you, was created by artists. The billboard on the side of the road, the advertisement for a local business, magazines, book covers, books, music, tv shows, movies….so many artists worked to bring you that entertainment.
Support them.
Pay for their art.
